Abstract:
Disclosed is a lithographic printing method which performs lithographic printing with emulsion ink as it is supplied from an ink fountain which is a reservoir of the emulsion ink to a lithographic printing plate, comprising the steps of: computing amounts of consumption of ink and aqueous components of the emulsion ink on the basis of a percent image area of the lithographic printing plate; and replenishing the ink fountain with at least one member of the group consisting of the ink component, the aqueous component and the emulsion ink in accordance with the computed amounts of consumption of the ink and aqueous components. By the lithographic printing method of the present invention, the problems that accompany the process of lithographic printing with emulsion ink, such as scumming which results from high consumption of the aqueous component, as well as faint image density, waterlogging due to over-emulsification and the like which result from low consumption of the aqueous component can be prevented and one can produce high-quality printed matter that is free from any deterioration in image quality on account of those problems.
Abstract:
A control system for regulating the composition of an emulsion ink made from an oil-based ink and a water-based fountain solution using a mixing and dispersing apparatus includes a liquid level sensor, means responsive to the liquid level sensor for maintaining a proper liquid level in the mixing and dispersing apparatus, and means for producing an emulsion ink with a water content value which is within a predetermined range from a desired water content value. The producing means includes a feedforward controller and a feedback controller for regulating water-based fountain solution input rate to the mixing and dispersing apparatus.
Abstract:
In a lithographic printing apparatus, the rollers that supply ink and/or water to form rollers have a surface with minutely intermixed hydrophilic and oleophilic areas. The amount of water retained by a roller is dependent upon the total of the hydrophilic areas, and the amount of oil-based ink retained by the roller is dependent upon the total of the oleophilic areas. A preselected ratio of oil to water is obtained by selecting the ratio of hydrophilic areas to oleophilic areas.
Abstract:
A gas release valve to be mounted in an access port of a battery cell includes a housing, the upper side of which is closed by a lid. The lower side of the lid has an opening leading into the battery cell and is in communication, via degassing passageways closed by an elastic sealing element, with at least one vent provided in the lid. The elastic sealing element is a preloaded non-return element, the inner surface of which is urged into sealing contact with a seat provided in the housing by it s own elasticity and, in addition, by a pressure differential with the outer pressure that acts through the vent against the outer surface of the sealing element.
Abstract:
A lithographic printing method of supplying emulsion ink to a lithographic printing plate via a form roller, and disrupting emulsion on the form roller. The degree of the emulsion's disruption before printing has started is different from the degree of disruption after printing has started. The duration of an idling mode can be shortened with the added advantage of reducing the development of waste paper right after the start of printing.
Abstract:
A printing press system with water content sensing capability is disclosed. Many printing operations, including keyless or lithographic printing presses, use an emulsion of ink and water to perform the printing operation. It is important that the emulsion maintain a proper balance between the ink and water. The disclosed system employs a sensor which may be placed in the ink train of the printing press to constantly monitor the level of water within the emulsion. The sensor may be a capacitive type sensor which detects changes in the dielectric constant of the emulsion, and based on a comparison of the measured value and a predetermined desired value, prompts the press operator regarding the imbalance to enable corrective action to be taken.
Abstract:
A method for producing an effect upon an emulsion formed of a printing ink and a dampening solution on a roller in a printing machine includes introducing oscillations produced by an oscillation exciting device of the printing machine, which oscillates at a frequency corresponding to that of ultrasound, into the emulsion on the roller; and a device suitable for performing the method.
Abstract:
The printing device using energy-curable inks is applicable to a flexographic printer comprising a printing deck (21) adapted for printing an energy-curable printing ink containing as the components, resin, pigment and a non-reactive evaporable component selected from water or another solvent, on a substrate layer (23) supported on a backpressure roller (24), and an energy emitting unit for curing said ink printed on the substrate layer (23). The printing deck (21) includes an ink application chamber (13) for applying the ink to an inking roller (11) arranged for inking-up a printing roller (12), and means for supplying printing ink from a container (1) to the corresponding ink application chamber (13). The device comprises means for maintaining the ratio of the components of the printing ink substantially constant.
