Abstract:
A tab system for a folder (10a), and a method of making same is disclosed. The tab is enlarged to carry more information/indicia. The visual indicia space (16a), i.e. the viewable space on the front (32a, 36a) of the folder which allows viewing of the enlarged tab is achieve without violating the overall size restrictions (40a) of the file folder. Instead, the front of the folder adjacent to the tab on the back panel, is cut away (32a,34a) to expose a greater portion of the back panel (14a) and allow an increase in visual indicia space. The remaining portion of the front panel, not adjacent to the tab may also be cut away (34a) to allow other enlarged tab files, with offset tabs, (22d, 21a) to be viewable behind the present file.
Abstract:
Adjustable rods for use in a filing system are disclosed. An example rod includes an elongated body having a first end and a second end, a first hook extending from the first end, and a second hook extending from the second end. In addition, the example rod includes a first resilient member having a first length. The first hook is coupled to the elongated body via the first resilient member, and the first length of the first resilient member is automatically adjustable during movement of the rod.
Abstract:
File folders are provided having bent hangers from which a receptacle is suspended so that the top of the receptacle is beneath a rail-engaging portion of the hangers and/or beneath a top of the rail or other supporting structure of office storage equipment. The hangers of the file folder may also be collapsible for use outside the office storage equipment. The hangers may also have a grip, or handle, for removal of the file folder from the office storage equipment.

Abstract:
A file device for mounting onto a support rail includes a first sheet having a first support device to cooperate with the support rail along a top edge of the first sheet, a second sheet having a second support device to cooperate with the support rail along a top edge of the second sheet and being coupled to the first sheet along the bottom of the second sheet and a third sheet having a third support device to cooperate with the support rail along the top edge of the third sheet and being coupled to the second sheet along the top of the third sheet.

Abstract:
A suspension bar for a hanging file having coplanar longitudinal top and bottom portions and a longitudinal middle portion having an offset parallel to the coplanar longitudinal top and bottom portions. A traverse perimeter flare is around each notch. A plurality of small depressed sections in the longitudinal middle portion are expanded to prevent nesting of stacked suspension bars. The notches of the suspension bars are coated to reduce friction. Sheet metal stock need be only half the thickness of conventional flat suspension bar stock with the same load-supporting capacity when incorporated in a hanging file folder thereby lowering manufacturing cost of suspension bars and hanging file folders. This invention also includes a process for making the suspension bars and for installing the suspension bars in jackets at a high production rate, including automated production lines.
Abstract:
A coupling member is disclosed for connecting together adjacent hanging file folders. An elongate member includes a slot is formed along the full length thereof and positioned to receive the upper edges of the leaves of two adjacent folders. In a preferred embodiment, the slot is defined by two spaced-apart surfaces which extend into the interior region of the elongate member. The interior region may be solid or may be partially or fully hollow. The elongate member has any one of a number of cross-sectional profiles, including semi-circular, rectilinear, triangular and concave shaped profiles. In another embodiment of the present invention, the coupling member includes two slots each for receiving one of two adjacent folders.
Abstract:
The suspended file folder is made entirely from thermoplastic material. The assembly uses a thermoplastic sheet folded along at least one score line to define a folder. The folder has integral suspension portions extending laterally from upper side edges, having generally U-shaped downwardly-opening notches therein to accommodate the suspension rails. Two thermoplastic support bars are permanently fused one to each wall of the folder along the upper edges thereof to provide the required degree of strength and rigidity. The support bars have generally U-shaped downwardly-opening notches therein, corresponding to and aligned with the notches in the suspension portions of the folders. The support bars preferably are provided with ribs to enhance rigidity and strength. Preferably, there are two of the score lines at the bottom of the folder, so that the folder is somewhat U-shaped rather than V-shaped. Additional score lines may be provided as well if desired, particularly to accommodate thicker files or more papers. The folders are preferably formed by co-extruding the sheets together with the support bars, in a continuous web. The folders are then completed by die-cutting to separate the folders from each other, and to simultaneously cut away a strip of material to leave behind the folder shape including the suspension portions and U-shaped notches. The invention thus includes a method of manufacturing the file folder assembly, as well as the folder assembly itself.
