Abstract: An electronically addressable a-polar document receptacle identification circuit has first and second terminals adapted to be connected to a two conductor data bus for supplying data signals to the terminals and for receiving responses from the circuit. The circuit has a two phase diode bridge circuit with first and second nodes connected to the first and second terminals. The diode bridge circuit is connect to the data signal input of a circuit microcontroller having an output connected to the first and second nodes for furnishing response signals to the nodes. The associated receptacle can be a file folder removably received in a file cabinet or a notebook binder removably received on a cabinet shelf. The circuit will function correctly regardless of the orientation of the terminals with respect to the data bus conductors so a file folder or a notebook binder can be installed in either one of two possible orientations without affecting the functionality of the circuit.

Abstract: Adjustable rods for use in a filing system are disclosed. An example adjustment member to be coupled to a rod for use in a filing system includes a hook extending laterally from an end of the adjustment member and a mounting portion including a means for mounting the adjustment member to the rod. The example adjustment member also includes a resilient structure coupled to the hook and the mounting portion. In this example, the resilient structure permits the hook to dynamically move longitudinally and adjust an effective length of the adjustment member by adjusting the length of the resilient structure in response to a lateral displacement imposed on the rod.

Abstract: Rods for use in a filing system are disclosed. An example file folder rod includes a first end, a second end and an elongated body extending between the first end and the second end, the elongated body having a longitudinal axis. The example rod also includes a hook coupled to the first end of the rod. The example hook includes a longitudinal portion extending along the longitudinal axis, an elongated hook portion coupled to an end of the longitudinal portion with the elongated hook portion extending from the longitudinal portion a first distance, and a first extension extending from the longitudinal portion with the first extension extending from the longitudinal portion a second distance, the second distance less than the first distance.

Abstract: A support structure has two side panels and two support frame assemblies maintaining the side panels in a mutually spaced relationship and at an elevation to enable suspension of hanging file folders from upper surfaces of the side panels. Each side panel has a top member having the upper surface and a bottom member spaced apart from the top member. Terminal ends of each of the top and bottom members are provided with vertical slots. Each support frame assembly has two support legs that extend into the vertical slots of the respective terminal ends of the side panels and has a transverse support member having opposite terminal ends releasably mounted to respective ones of the support legs. Each support leg has first and second leg portions spaced apart from one another by a bend serving as a seat that positions and holds the transverse support member.

Abstract: A searchable binder which is operationally compatible with a binder management system having a cabinet with shelves or a file cabinet with file drawers for removable storage of searchable binders. Each binder has a body with front and rear covers and a spine. Inside the body is a binder mechanism for removably retaining sheet media. Each binder has a pair of binder contact mechanisms mounted to the spine at opposite ends, a binder identification circuit electrically coupled to the binder contact mechanisms, and a visible indicator. Each binder contact mechanism has a base element and a sliding element. The sliding element can be manually set to a retracted position in which the sliding element is extended a first distance and an extended position in which the sliding element is extended a second greater distance. In the retracted position, the sliding elements can make contact with conductive elements of a binder cabinet when a binder is placed on a shelf. In the extended position the sliding elements can make contact with conductive support rails of a file cabinet when a binder is placed in a file drawer. When a binder identification signal from a host computer is supplied to the conductive elements or the conductive rails. It is transferred by the binder contact mechanisms to the binder identification circuit. If the signal matches an address code stored in the binder identification circuit, the LED is activated to aid the user in finding the binder.

Abstract: A tab system for a folder (10a), and a method of making same is disclosed. The tab is enlarged to carry more information/indicia. The visual indicia space (16a), i.e. the viewable space on the front (32a, 36a) of the folder which allows viewing of the enlarged tab is achieve without violating the overall size restrictions (40a) of the file folder. Instead, the front of the folder adjacent to the tab on the back panel, is cut away (32a,34a) to expose a greater portion of the back panel (14a) and allow an increase in visual indicia space. The remaining portion of the front panel, not adjacent to the tab may also be cut away (34a) to allow other enlarged tab files, with offset tabs, (22d, 21a) to be viewable behind the present file.
