Also provided is a second rigid linear element having a first end and a second end which end is pivotally secured to the wiper arm at a distance from its end generally equal to a length of the second linear element. An auto window wiper blade is pivotally coupled at about a middle of the wiper arm.

A wiper system for automotive vehicles has a wiper receiving cavity between a windshield and an engine hood. The wiper receiving cavity has an opening through which a wiper goes in and out and which is open and closed by means of a lid member. The usual operation of the wiper system is performed in response to turning ON of a manually operable wiper switch. The wiper system has also another manual switch, operable independently of operation of the wiper switch, for allowing the lid member to be open in response to turning ON thereof. In addition, the wiper system includes means for changing a lower angular position thereof to a higher position.

A hydraulic motor includes a primary drive piston for driving a motor shaft which oscillated within a main housing chamber. A secondary linearly reciprocating drive piston is disposed within an auxiliary housing chamber for driving a secondary drive shaft. A shuttle-type reversal valve and conduits route pressurized fluid alternately to and from opposite sides of the primary piston to cause oscillation during running of the motor and to park it in a position beyond its running range. The controller valve and conduits also route pressurized fluid to and from opposite sides of the secondary piston through sequence valving to effect reciprocation thereof. The sequence valving is actuated when the primary piston is oscillated and preferably only at the time when the primary piston is moving to or from its park position. Thus the primary drive shaft can run continuously to operate a pair of windshield wipers, for example, while the secondary drive shaft can run only when the wipers move to and from a concealed parking position beyond the normal running range to operate a cowl panel, for example, which conceals the wipers in a parked position and opens to permit operation of the wipers.

The assembly includes an enclosure having a top access door formed so as to be flush with the hood in a lowered inoperative position, and a bottom panel formed so as to effect an extension of the windshield in an elevated operative position. A windshield wiper assembly includes a motor mounted on the vehicle body, a wiper arm reciprocally pivotally mounted on the motor, a wiper blade pivotally connected to the wiper arm and seated on the bottom panel for movement therewith. Suitable power and lift apparatus serve to vertically raise and lower the enclosure, thereby raising the wiper blade by pivoting the wiper arm, to become aligned with the windshield.

In a preferred form, this disclosure relates to a cover concealed windshield wiper apparatus for an automotive vehicle having a windshield which extends within a well extending transversely of the vehicle and a cover means movable between a closed position in which it covers the well and an open position in which it uncovers the well. The windshield cleaning apparatus includes a pair of spaced oscillatable windshield cleaner assemblies, a drive means including a motor having a rotary output shaft for oscillating the windshield cleaners across the windshield between an outboard position and an inboard position in which the windshield cleaner assembly is disposed within the well, and a cover operating mechanism for moving the cover from its closed position towards its open position, and vice versa, in response to initial and final rotative movement of the output shaft of the wiper motor when wiper operation is initiated and being terminated, respectively.
