    摘要: The present invention teaches a friction-type draft gear assembly including a housing having an open front and a closed rear portions. A compressible cushioning element is positioned within the rear portion with a seating arrangement abutting one end thereof adjacent the open front portion. A friction cushioning element is provided in the open front portion of the housing. A spring release mechanism is adapted for continuously urging the friction cushioning element outwardly from the compressible cushioning element thereby releasing such friction cushioning element after compression of such draft gear assembly. A compressible cushioning element includes a hydraulic cylinder having a slidable piston to define a high pressure chamber and a low pressure chamber. A means disposed within the piston are provided for increasing shock absorbing capacity of such draft gear assembly.

    摘要: A railcar cushioning device includes an elastomeric spring and a hydraulic shock absorber member. The fluid accumulator is located outside of and above the fluid chambers. The accumulator is in communication with the fluid chamber in a non-stroked position, causing entrapped air to be displaced by the fluid, into the accumulator. Free of air, the shock absorber immediately responds to impact forces. The elastomeric spring reduces peak impact forces and returns the piston of the shock absorber to its non-stroked position. The elastomeric spring also absorbs draft forces.

    摘要: A railcar shock absorber has neutral position in which the piston is spaced between buff and draft ends of the cylinder. An external spring is mounted to the shock absorber. A slider rod has one end mounted to the coupling to move relative to the frame of the railcar. The spring has retainers on each end, and the slider rod passes through the retainers. One of the retainers is stationary relative to the frame. The other retainer floats relative to the frame and will abut a neutral stop of the frame when the spring is in the maximum length position. An engagement member on the slider rod will further compress the spring if a draft shock occurs from the neutral position. If a buff shock occurs from the neutral position, the engagement member moves away from the floating retainer.

    摘要: A hydraulic cushioning unit includes a high pressure cylinder having a piston therein and a piston rod extended through the rod end of the cylinder. The cylinder is contained within an outer housing. A head casting closes the head ends of the cylinder and housing and an end cap closes the rod ends thereof. The end cap includes a ball stop sleeve protruding interiorly of the cylinder for cooperating with a ball valve port through the cylinder adjacent the rod end thereof to accomplish returned valving of fluid into the high pressure cylinder behind the piston. The same ball stop sleeve supports a resilient bumper for limiting the extent of movement of the cylinder in response to draft forces.

    摘要: A pressure relief valve arrangement for use in a double-acting hydraulic piston and cylinder cushioning device which prevents buff and draft impacts from damaging lading in a railway car. The pressure relief valve is located in a radial bore in the movable piston head which connects passages communicating with the highand low-pressure areas and comprises a cylindrical valve spool biased by a compression spring. The spring maintains the valve spool in a closed position against the end of the passage to the low-pressure fluid thus cutting off fluid flow between the highand low-pressure areas. When a predetermined pressure is reached in a low-pressure cylinder, indicating an excessively high pressure in the high-pressure chamber, the relief valve will open the passages connecting the high- and low-pressure areas thus providing relief for the high-pressure fluid.

    摘要: A double-acting hydraulic cushion unit for a railway car which is formed with a hydraulic-fluid-filled cylinder having a closed end and an open end afforded by an apertured cylinder head. A piston assembly is disposed for relative reciprocating movement within the cylinder and includes a piston rod which slidingly moves through the cylinder head. The unit is provided with a flexible accumulator boot connected to the cylinder head and to the piston rod to close the open end of the cylinder. A metering means comprises a metering pin on the cylinder which cooperates with a slidable orifice plate in the piston, the orifice plate having one position in buff impact and another position on the return stroke of the piston assembly to facilitate the transfer of fluid from one side of the piston head to the other. A fluidpressure-responsive valve means is movably disposed in a chamber contiguous with the accumulator to a position overlying passages communicating with the accumulator and to a position clear of said passages. The fluid-pressure-responsive valve is designed to also restrict the flow of fluid from one side of the piston during the return stroke of the piston and upon a draft impact stroke to cushion said impact. The piston rod also includes metering openings also serving on the return stroke to meter the fluid to the accumulator boot. In one embodiment relief valves are provided in the piston to open upon predetermined fluid pressures on opposite sides of said piston.

    摘要: A hydraulic cushioning device and draft gear is disposed in cushion pockets at opposite ends of a center sill. The cushioning device comprises a hydraulic cylinder with a piston assembly slidable lengthwise therein. The cylinder is anchored within the center sill by removable stops which extend through the center sill. The piston assembly includes a piston rod which projects through an end wall of a yoke housing and is retained therein by means of a connecting element seated in a socket. The yoke housing is provided with outward projections forming, with a pair of removable stops projecting through the center sill, a pair of spring pockets which contain springs adapted to return the piston assembly to a neutral position during draft impacts. The yoke housing includes a coupler shank which is movable within the yoke housing to transmit buff impacts directly to the connecting element of the piston rod.
