    摘要: Embodiments of the disclosure provide a foldable/retractable and unfoldable/deployable, rearwardly tapered aerodynamic assembly for use on the rear trailer bodies and other vehicles that accommodate dual swing-out doors. The aerodynamic assembly includes a right half mounted on the right hand door and a left half mounted on a left hand door. Each half can be constructed with a side panel, top panel and bottom panel, which each form half of an overall tapered box when deployed on the rear of the vehicle, the bottom panels and top panels being sealed together at a pair of overlapping weather seals along the centerline.

    摘要: An aerodynamic control system includes a skirt assembly configured to be disposed between plural vehicles in a vehicle system formed from the plural vehicles with the vehicles separated by a spatial gap in the vehicle system. The skirt assembly can include a bladder configured to be inflated with a fluid by a fluid source disposed onboard the vehicle system to cause the skirt assembly to expand between the vehicles from a collapsed state to an expanded state such that the skirt assembly at least partially fills the spatial gap between the vehicles. The skirt assembly can reduce aerodynamic drag exerted on the vehicle system during movement of the vehicle system relative to the vehicle system moving without the skirt assembly in the expanded state.

    摘要: An aerodynamic device includes an inflatable member convertible between a deflated position and an inflated position at a speed certain. When in the inflated position, the inflatable member on the aerodynamic device extends between the cabin wall on a vehicle and a leading wall on a container supported by a trailer towed by the vehicle. The inflatable member fills a gap ordinarily between the cabin wall and trailer to encourage laminar flow as truck hauls trailer through an air stream. The encouragement of laminar flow reduces drag which results in increase fuel economy for the truck's engine, amongst other advantages.

    摘要: The present invention is directed towards an aerodynamic drag reducing device for an articulated road vehicle; the articulated road vehicle comprising a tractor unit and a trailer unit, with the trailer tractor unit pivotably connectable to the tractor unit such that a gap is formed intermediate the tractor unit and the trailer unit when the trailer unit is connected to the tractor unit; the aerodynamic drag reducing device comprising an inflatable enclosure (2)attached to a support framework (10); the support framework (10) being mountable on a rearward facing portion of the tractor unit or on a forward facing portion of the trailer unit, so as to retain the inflatable enclosure (2) in the gap intermediate the tractor unit and the trailer unit; the inflatable enclosure (2) being made of a flexible material; wherein, the inflatable enclosure (2) comprises an outer wall (3) and an inner wall (4) spaced apart and defining an air-receiving cavity therebetween; and, the outer wall (3) and inner wall (4) being curved respectively so that the air-receiving cavity defined therebetween comprises a substantially semi-annular transverse cross-section. The purpose of the aerodynamic drag reducing device is to reduce the aerodynamic drag and hence result in a more fuel efficient articulated road vehicle. Tests have shown that up to an 8% reduction in fuel usage can be achieved by installing such an aerodynamic drag reducing device to a standard articulated road vehicle. Clearly, this can result in significant sayings.

    摘要: A drag reducing device utilizing sealed aft cavities designed to limit interference with existing truck and trailer designs is described. The invention comprises one or more sealed aft cavities affixed to the rear of a traditional commercial straight truck or trailer, or any other blunt (or mostly blunt) aft faced vehicle. A capability is provided by which the device is stowed to allow normal operation of the straight truck, trailer or vehicle. Drag is reduced by the streamlining of the rear of the vehicle, postponing and narrowing the flow separation downstream of the trailing edge as well as increasing the pressure on the back of the vehicle with the open to the rear, sealed aft cavity. The concept described focuses on the utilization of sealed aft cavities) to limit the effects of blunt body drag and the means for attachment and stowage for loading and unloading cargo.

    摘要: A drag reduction assembly is mountable on a vehicle or other object experiencing relative motion in a fluid environment. The assembly comprises at least one shell of flexible web material movable between non-deployed and deployed positions. In addition, the shell is configured to provide at least an outer flow surface in the deployed position (e.g., a curved surface) to reduce the effects of aerodynamic drag. In many embodiments, intake apertures such as NACA ducts may be provided to allow a portion of the flowing fluid into the shell. The flowing fluid will cause the shell to assume automatically the deployed position. In cases where fluid enters the shell, an exit location is provided in the shell to permit such fluid to exit and rejoin fluid on the outside.
