摘要: A thermal demand printer for printing on media is a novel system which includes a case structure including a hinged cover panel, easily removable guide structures and media hanger, and a single central support wall to which the various components are attached. The printer includes a power supply circuit for receiving power from an external source and conditioning it for operation of the printer. An input device is provided for receiving command signals related to the operation of the printer. A control circuit for processing the command signals and generating corresponding control signals for controlling the operation of the printer and a printhead assembly for processing the control signals and generating corresponding control signals for controlling the operation of the printer are mounted in the case structure and coupled to the input device and the power supply circuit. The printhead assembly includes a printhead support structure which controls the printhead. A ribbon take-up spindle, method of operating the take-up spindle using a PMDC motor, and a spring wrap clutch device help to control the tension in the transfer ribbon used in the printer. The printer also includes a medial sensor and a method of sensing media by way of detecting the opacity of the media passing through the sensor. The printer includes a method of printhead control using double data loading and a method of accelerating and decelerating media relative to the printhead using pulse width modulation.

摘要: A detector assembly for detecting registration marks on a printed sheet when different color printing on different colored sheets is present has a pair of light sources and a light sensor. The light sources are of different colors selected to be complimentary such that one light source or the other will be capable of detecting a substantial range of contrasting registration marks placed on sheets that can be of various colors. Controls are used for selecting the light source that provides an output sensed by a light sensor when passing over the registration marks.

摘要: A base sheet path for peeled issue for guiding a base sheet in a direction different from a label issue port after passing a peeling section following the printing by a printing section and a base sheet path for continuous issue for guiding the base sheet to the label issue port with labels printed by the printing section stuck on the base sheet are provided. Two operating modes, namely, the label peeled issue mode in which the base sheet is set to the base sheet path for peeled issue and the label continuous issue mode in which the base sheet is set to the base sheet path for continuous issue are executed selectively. In this case, depending on the result of detection by a base sheet sensor arranged facing the base sheet path for peeled issue for detecting the presence of the base sheet, namely, depending on the setting state of the base sheet, the label peeled issue mode or the label continuous issue mode is recognized automatically for determining the issue mode. Namely, depending on the difference between the positions at which the base sheet is set in the label peeled issue mode and the label continuous issue mode, the label issue mode is recognized without adding an issue mode parameter to an issue command.

摘要: A thermal printer for printing linerless labels is operated so that the pressure sensitive adhesive of the second face of the labels does not stick to a drive roller which advances and reverses the labels, and cooperates with the thermal print head to effect printing. A cutter is disposed downstream of the print head and drive roll from a linerless label roll takeoff. Between the cutter and the drive roller is an air knife which directs a substantially uniform flow of gas to the peripheral surface of the drive roller to prevent the adhesive of the labels from sticking to the drive roller peripheral surface. Air flow through the air knife is at a pressure of about 20-50 psi (preferably about 30 psi) and the air flow may be provided continuously or only during initiation and continuation of printing and advancing the printer. Operation of the drive roller is also controlled to prevent sticking by advancing the roll of linerless labels so that the leading edge is aligned with the cutter, completely formatting the printer while the leading edge is aligned with the cutter, reversing the label leading edge by operating the drive roll so that the leading edge moves to an initial position for printing of the leading label of the roll, and with a delay of less than 0.5 seconds (i.e. substantially immediately) initiating printing and advancing so that the adhesive does not have any opportunity to stick to the drive roller.

摘要: A label printer and cutter combination will print a number of labels on a large sheet that is fed from a sheet tray coupled to the printer. The labels are oriented orthogonally along X-Y axes on the sheet, and once all the labels on the sheet have been printed, a transfer section coupled to the printer changes position and the sheet is fed, with the printed labels on the sheet, into a cutter. The cutter is operated to individually cut the labels and deposit the sheet of properly cut labels onto a storage tray. The printer and the cutter are operated under digital control and can be programmed to accommodate different size labels as well as different size sheets as well as provide signals for controlling related functions of the printer and cutter.

摘要: A demand printer has an input structure for receiving command signals related to the operation of the printer; a control circuit coupled to the input structure, and a power supply circuit for processing command signals and generating corresponding control signals for controlling the operation of the printer. A switch circuit line is coupled to at least a first and a second point on the power supply circuit. The switch circuit line provides a first operating voltage for the operation of the printer when connected between the first and second points in the power supply circuit and provides a second operating voltage when the connection between said first and second points is opened by a severing structure. The severing structure projects into a base cavity of the case and is retained therein for maintaining an open circuit between the first and second points on the power supply circuit once said switch circuit line is severed. The severing structure includes a wall of the base cavity which has an control aperture extending therethrough, a severing body having a head end and a severing end wherein the severing end projecting through the control aperture and contacting and severing the switch circuit line; a retaining segment on the severing body operatively associated with the case when the severing body is inserted through the control aperture for retaining the severing body in contact with the switch circuit line to maintain an open circuit between the first and second points.

摘要: A demand printer for printing on media includes a ribbon take-up spindle for accumulating spent printing ribbon and facilitating removal of the spent ribbon from the spindle. The spindle has a surface with a protrusion bore formed therethrough. At least one protruding segment extends through the protrusion bore. The protruding segment controllably projects away from the spindle surface for maintaining a space between a portion of the spindle surface and the spent ribbon accumulated on the spindle. A biasing structure is operatively associated with the spindle and the protruding segment for controllably biasedly directing the protruding segment through the protrusion bore in the spindle. A retracting structure is provided for controllably compressing and expanding the biasing means to controllably move the protruding segment through the protrusion bore.
