Systems and methods monitor a conveyor system to determine whether packages are at risk of falling off or jamming. Sensor(s), such as emitters, emit signals in a direction along a longitudinal length of the conveyor system, such as parallel to a flow of packages. Additional sensor(s), such as receivers, are arranged to receive the signals. In instances where the signals are received by the receivers, the packages may be properly positioned on the conveyor system and may not be at risk of falling off and/or jamming. However, if the signals are not received, this may be indicative of the packages being improperly positioned on the conveyor system. In such instances, the conveyor system may come to a stop, may slow in speed, and/or personnel may be instructed to reposition the packages on the conveyor system.

A detected region whose temperature is detected by the temperature sensor is formed in the fixing belt, and an elastic layer of the detected region is provided with a hole in a part thereof in a circumferential direction. The controller judges that the fixing belt is rotating in a case where the temperature detected by the temperature sensor alternately increases and decreases in a state that the heat source is heating the fixing belt, and judges that the fixing belt is not rotating in a case where the temperature detected by the temperature sensor does not alternately increase and decrease in the state that the heat source is heating the fixing belt.

A control for a reciprocating grate conveyor wherein the conveyor includes support structure which supports alternate rows of fixed and movable grates with a motor and transmission arrangement for reciprocating the movable grates to advance material along the conveyor. The control system includes a strain gage network mounted on the crank shaft of the movable grate drive mechanism. The strain gages generate a signal proportional to the forces on the means for reciprocating the movable grates. An arrangement is provided whereby when the force exceeds a first predetermined maximum, an alarm is sounded. If the forces on the drive mechanism exceed a second, higher predetermined maximum, the conveyor drive motor is stopped.

The comparison of fluid flows or electrical signals is utilized to decelerate a system (e.g., a conveyor) by regulating the fluid pressure in a brake assembly. A time decay reference signal which is related to the speed of a control motor, conveyor or other reference source is compared with a similar signal related to the speed of a controlled conveyor. The comparison of these two signals is employed to control the application of the brake in the controlled conveyor system so that the controlled conveyor will decelerate in a predetermined manner. Once the controlled conveyor is stopped, any rearward or forward movement of the controlled conveyor generates a signal which actuates the brake to again decelerate the controlled conveyor. The drive assembly of the controlled conveyor has a flywheel to insure that the minimum stopping time of the controlled conveyor from its normal operating speed exceeds a predetermined time.

The gear reducer drive rotates the driving sprocket through a drive shaft which includes a flexible coupling to permit elevation of the driving sprocket in response to a jam in the conveyor mechanism. Elevation of the driving sprocket automatically trips a micro switch to de-energize the driving motor to prevent damage to any conveyor system component.

A feeder is disclosed in which a supply feeder delivers frangible parts to a linear feeder. The control is achieved by slaving the supply feeder to the linear feeder, and controlling the number of parts on the linear feeder as a master with the supply feeder as slave. An interrupted beam control is positioned to determine the infeed from the supply feeder to the linear feeder, the linear feeder being controlled by another beam interruption control at its delivering end. The parts are delivered to a finite position, illustrated for pick up by a conveyor having a plurality of buckets on a chain. The control shuts off the slave supply feeder upon a predetermined time delay after parts pass through the beam. The supply feeder is then activated again after the parts blockage is removed. For purposes of illustration, the supply feeder is a vibratory bowl feeder and the linear feeder is a vibratory linear feeder. The method contemplates feeding the parts to the linear feeder from the slave supply feeder shutting the same off upon a predetermined time delay after a signal. The signal is a function of continuous parts blockage of a sensor, which is reactivated responsive to the absence of parts blockage, the method of controlling the linear feeder being solely the function of positioning of parts at its delivery end.
