The invention relates to a folding blade for a blown film line, as well as to a blown film line equipped therewith.Folding blades are used for laterally folding in a film bubble running to the take-off pinch rolls. If they engage deeply into the film bubble, they are provided with a fin on the rear side, and referred to as deep folding blades.The invention proposes that the rear side of a folding blade be equipped with a fin, which exhibits a collapsible element with an adjustment device. The volume of the fin can thereby be varied. In particular, the fin can be laid flat against the rear side of the folding blade.

A device for making, on a web element (W), which is advancing, a fold along a line of fold (W3) oriented in the direction of advance of the web so as to bring a first portion (W1) and a second portion (W2) of the web element (W), originally situated on opposite sides of the line of fold (W3), to assume a folded configuration, in which the second portion (W2) is turned over on the first portion (W1). The device comprises:—a surface of feed (10) for feeding the first portion (W1) of the web element (W), the surface having an edge (100), which defines the aforesaid line of fold (W3); and—a motor-driven belt conveyor (20), set alongside the surface of feed (10) along the folding edge (100) for conveying the second portion (W2) of the web element (W) subjected to folding; the belt conveyor (20) extends according to a path of twisting around said folding edge (100). The twisting path carries the top branch of the belt conveyor (20), initially coplanar with the aforesaid surface of feed (10), to turn over and superimpose itself on the surface of feed (10) causing V-shaped folding of the web element W.

An improved method and apparatus for forming a pair of inwardly turned hems in the adjoining free edges of superposed layers of a longitudinally folded moving pliable material web, particularly superposed thermoplastic film panels for forming plastic bags having draw tapes in the hems. The moving web is passed over the cylindrical surface of a roller with the free edge of the inner layer of the web passing over a plurality of rollers disposed at one end of the first-named roller. The surfaces of the plurality of rollers extend substantially to the periphery of the roller. The free edge of the outer layer of the web is passed over a semicylindrical surface adjacent the plurality of rollers. The free edges of the layers of the web are guided to a hem folder at the downstream side of a hem forming block where they are folded inwardly adjacent the respective layers of the web to provide a pair of inwardly turned hems in the adjoining free edges of the opposing layers of the web.

Threading mechanism for a treatment plant which includes a band of flexible material folded upon itself to grip the leading end of the web material, the fold being closed on the web material adjacent the entrance end of the plant and separated from the web material at the discharge end of the plant. The mechanism includes a guiding surface or roller positioned adjacent the discharge end having a profile to open the folded band more than 180*, along with a drive roller for pulling the band around the profiled surface. The mechanism also includes jet elements for positively engaging the web material being treated into the fold of the band prior to its re-entry into the chamber. In one embodiment of the invention the profiled surface and the guide roller are mounted a substantial distance below the exit and entrance rollers for the folded band.
