An α-diketopyrrolopyrrole pigment characterized by giving an X-ray diffraction spectrum in which the ratio of the peak density (I020) for plane index (020) to the peak intensity (I−141) for plane index (−141), I020/I−141 is 0.40 or lower and the ratio of the peak intensity (I−141) for plane index (−141) to the peak intensity (I111) for plane index (111), I−141/I111 is 1.28 or lower. Also provided are: a coloring composition containing this pigment; and a red film formed with this coloring composition. In a color filter formed with α-diketopyrrolopyrrole pigment, which has that property, the red filter segments have a high contrast ratio and a small absolute value of birefringence. Consequently, a color liquid-crystal display or the like having small viewing-angle dependence and showing excellent display characteristics can be produced.

The invention relates to the use of compounds of the formula R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently of one another are hydrogen, halogen, R6, OR6 or SR6, R5 is hydrogen or linear or branched C1-C12alkyl, benzyl or phenethyl, and R6 is an apolar group which is unsubstituted or substituted one or more times by halogen or by OC1-C6alkyl, with the proviso that if R5 is hydrogen, R1, R2, R3 or R4 is R6, OR6 or SR6, as additives in the pigmentation of partially crystalline plastics, especially those processed by injection moulding, with pigments containing at least one each of groups which are joined to one another as or are in conjugation with one another. The present invention relates to a process for the direct preparation of pyrrolonull3,4-cnullpyrroles (DPPs) of the formula (I), pigment compositions containing them and their use for coloring high molecular weight organic materials, such as plastics and paints. The obtained DPPs of the formula I possess a higher colour strength, a higher chroma, a purer shade and a higher opacity versus corresponding commercially available DPPs.

The present invention relates to the host-guest solid solutions formed from a mixture of 1,4-diketo-3,6-bis(4-chlorophenyl)pyrrolonull3,4-cnullpyrrole (para-dichloro DPP) and 1,4-diketo-3,6-bis(4-methylphenyl)pyrrolonull3,4-cnullpyrrole (para-dimethyl DPP). The mixture contains between 30-80 mol percent of para-dimethyl DPP and 70-20 mol percent of para-dichloro DPP. The present invention further relates to the preparation of the solid solutions, and to the use of the solid solutions and binary solid compounds as pigments.
