Abstract:
The invention relates to the production of coloring agents which are soluble in water and in aqueous vehicles. The soluble coloring agents are, in particular, organic and are especially used in the food industry. The inventive coloring agents are characterized in that they are present in a solid form mixed with an effervescent agent in a binder which is essentially composed of polyethylene glycol wherein they are previously diluted at a temperature which is higher than the fusion temperature of said binder. Preferably, the method for the production of said coloring agents involves a dry mixture of two constituents introduced in a powdery form prior to the heating of said mixture, resulting in the fusion of the binder.
Abstract:
Color concentrate compositions are disclosed, which contain colorant(s), binder, and polymer compatible with the base polymer to which the concentrate is intended to be added. The colorant is preferably one or more pigments. The compatible polymer preferably is the same polymer as the base polymer, although not necessarily the same molecular weight. The binder also serves as a surfactant to protect the compatible polymer. The presence of the compatible polymer in the concentrate enhances pellet integrity and adds the function of rheology modification to the base polymer when the concentrate is added.

Abstract:
Organic pigments are conditioned by treating them, after synthesis but preferably without or with only partial drying, in a mixture of from 1 to 30% by weight of a neutral, polar liquid having a dipole moment null of 2.8-6.0null 10null18 esu (2.8 to 6.0 debye units) and from 70 to 99% by weight of water in an agitated media pearl mill having a specific power density of at most 2.0 kjs7null1 per litre of grinding space. Drying is especially suitable in the case of only slightly agglomerating, easy to wet pigments of specific surface area from 1 to 25 m2/g. The method gives excellent results, and is flexible and also much simpler than known methods.
