Apparatus for use with a traveling cleaner for textile machines, particularly ring spinners, operable to strip yarn ends from the whirls of the spindles for the bobbins of the ring spinner apparatus. A whirl cleaner blade is pivoted to the frame of the ring spinner adjacent each spindle so that its free blade end may be displaced into engagement with the whirl of the spindle by a jet of compressed air impinged against the blade. The compressed air is supplied by a nozzle suspended from the carriage of the pneumatic cleaner to impinge against the blade. The compressed air is fed from a central junction box under the track for the carriage through the energy chain which houses the power supply cables for the carriage. From the carriage, the compressed air is piped to the nozzle positioned at the level of the spindle whirls. Control means is provided to activate the flow of compressed air for a selected time period which achieves stripping of the whirls of all of the spindles in the apparatus during the time when the ring rail is disposed a distance above the spindle whirls. In installations where the pneumatic cleaner additionally services sections of textile machinery which do not have spindles needing stripping, the flow of compressed air is also controlled by the travel of the cleaner between sections.

A traveling cleaner system with means for effecting a temporary alteration in the rate of travel of the traveling cleaner unit which is characterized by its ability to provide additional amounts of cleaning to preselected portions of the textile mill. The invention is comprised of a traveling cleaner unit that is movable along an overhead track that extends above textile machinery or that is mounted to a crane bridge that travels reciprocally along rails extending parallel to rows of textile machinery. The traveling cleaner unit includes blowers for direction a reciprocating cleaning current of air onto the underlying machinery. In one enbodiment a variable speed drive motor propels the cleaner unit along the overhead track and in the second embodiment, a variable speed drive motor propels the crane bridge along the rails. In addition to the traveling cleaner unit, the traveling cleaner system includes actuators, a switch that is mounted on the traveling cleaner unit and is engaged by the actuators and control means consisting primarily of a timer and speed varying means. The traveling cleaner unit alters its rate of travel when it passes preselected portions of the textile mill with the result that the textile mill is more thoroughly cleaned.

A cleaning apparatus which is movable along a spinning machine having numerous drafting mechanisms. The cleaning apparatus has air jets directed onto the drafting mechanism to loosen lint or fiber fly, which is taken up by suction openings. First air jets are arranged above and below the working or operating region of the drafting mechanism; these air jets respectively produce a horizontal air veil in order to prevent the fiber fly from being blown onto adjacent machine parts, or onto the floor of the workshop. Additionally, a second jet produces a strong flat air stream which essentially extends at right angles to the horizontal air veils of the first air jets, and extends approximately in the center thereof. A row of suction mouthpieces is respectively provided on both sides of the flat air stream of the second air jet.

A textile-machine cleaning device, having a cleaning hose and adapted to generally move overhead of a textile machine, is provided with means whereby the hose can be moved automatically from a first position in which it is operative to clean said machine, and a second position in which it allows the unimpeded passage of a further device (e.g. a yarn-attaching machine) servicing said textile machine and moving in the same path of movement as the hose. Conveniently, the cleaning device operates in combination with said further device, which is provided with means coacting with said means for moving the hose so as to cause said hose to adopt one of said two positions. Each winding unit of the apparatus is provided with a fresh cop reserving magazine and a chute for transferring a fresh cop from the magazine to a peg for supporting the cop. A bucket conveyer for carrying a plurality of fresh cops is disposed at a position behind and adjacent a row of winding units and each winding unit is provided with a chute for transferring a fresh cop from the conveyer to the peg. A device for selecting the supply source of the fresh cop from either one of the above-mentioned magazine and bucket conveyer and a mechanism for controlling the cop supply operation are mounted to each winding unit.
