A silver feed and opening device for open-end spinning applications comprises a housing having a rotatable opening roller associated with a pivotable guide plate having a first sliver guide portion for directing incoming sliver to the opening roller, a second arcuate fiber guide portion extending along a portion of the opening roller circumference in its direction of rotation, and a third debris guide portion extending outwardly from the opening roller and defining with the housing a debris discharge opening. The guide plate is of a unitary one-piece construction without joints between individual portions to prevent undesirable fiber accumulation which tends to occur in conventional devices. Each of the fiber and debris guide portions of the guide plate are spaced sufficiently from the sidewalls of the housing to form side slots which are a multiple of the thickness of the fibers, thereby to prevent accumulation thereof between the guide plate and the housing.

Apparatus for separating fibers in open-end spinning units having a fiber separating cylinder in a cavity of a housing in which on a cylindrical surface there is provided a cleaning aperture with an impurity separating duct which latter opens by its impurity rebounding wall into a cylindrical impurity collecting chamber communicating, on the one hand, with an air supply aperture and, on the other hand, with an impurity sucking-off duct. In accordance with the invention at least one of the walls of the impurity sucking-off duct tangentially merges into the cylindrical wall of the cylindrical impurity collecting chamber, and the height of said sucking-off duct in the region of joining said collecting chamber is the same as or larger than the height of the outlet from said impurity separating duct into said collecting chamber.

A method of removing impurities from staple fibres in ringless spinning and a device for performing said method. The impurities are ejected immediately after being contacted by the combing roller into a withdrawing space by the effect of the acceleration imparted thereto by said contact. Spinning units including a fibre separating mechanism and a rotary underpressure spinning chamber are employed. The inlet or the guiding walls for said impurities are directed in view of the separating roller tangentially. The withdrawing space can be connected to the central sucking device of the machine.

A method of and apparatus for removing dirt particles from staple fibers and straightening the resulting clean fibers in an open-end spinning unit which includes means for feeding sliver, fiber opening means, and means for twisting the thus cleaned and opened fibers. Fibers together with dirt particles contained therein are accelerated by the opening action and are exposed to a first air flow which, by its deceleration due to its expansion, separates the dirt particles from the fibers. Immediately thereafter, the thus cleaned fibers are exposed to a second air flow by which they are straightened due to an acceleration imparted to them by said second air flow.In the apparatus of the invention there are provided three sectors, viz. a fiber opening sector, a dirt discharging sector, and a fiber straightening sector, in that order, the dirt discharging sector merging with the fiber straightening sector via a widened mouth.

A method and apparatus for removing fiber waste from yarn spinning rotors of open-end spinning machines and for removing trash waste liberated from fibers in their paths of travel to the respective rotors, utilizing a common primary airflow for drawing air from the rotors and for also drawing air adjacent the paths of travel of the fibers to the rotors so that the airflow adjacent such paths of travel will not interfere with movement of the fibers along such paths to the adjacent yarn spinning rotors. Preferably, the airflow from the rotors of each machine passes through a respective movable filter arranged to arrest fiber waste thereon periodically for intervals of predetermined duration permitting extinguishing of any fire which may have been ignited in the fiber waste being drawn from the rotors of the machines.

In what is referred to as an air vortex spinning method, fibres are dispersed by a dispersion roller (5) into individual fibres, and conveyed by means of a suction roller (9) against a fibre conveying channel (15), from which the fibres are conducted against the mouth of a yarn channel of a hollow spindle (13). In this situation, the front ends of the fibres are taken up in the yarn channel (14), while the rear ends are acquired by a rotating air flow R and rotated around the mouth area of the spindle or yarn channel, so that a yarn is formed which exhibits at least a surface which displays a character similar to a ring-spun yarn. Th principle according to the invention is that, on the one hand, the fibres are separated at the transfer from the dispersion roller (5) to the suction roller by an abrupt change of direction at the baffles or deflector plates 8 and 17 from the trash particles, these particles being unable to follow the abrupt change of direction because of inertia, in such a way that these trash particles, which cause spinning interruptions in the area between the outlet of the fibre conveying channel (15) and the intake of the yarn channel (14), are separated out in good time before the inlet into the fibre conveying channel.

At least one source for generating electromagnetic waves is associated with the receiver and actuates a purposeful initiation of the spark sensor.
