A tack-in apparatus is provided wherein injection ports are arranged at upper and lower sides of a weft yarn path, respectively. The injection ports inject currents for folding back an end portion of a cut weft yarn into a warp yarn opening on the weft yarn path which the weft yarn passes by a beating operation. Air guides projecting toward the warp yarn opening are formed at circumferential portions of the injection ports between the weft yarn path and the injection ports. The surfaces of the air guides which are on the sides of the injection ports are inclined toward the weft yarn path at front end portions of the air guides. In order to tack in the weft yarn end, the injection air currents are directed to the central portion of the warp yarn opening. This enables the weft yarn end to be transferred reliably, the tack-in operation to be carried out reliably, and the turbulence of the warp yarn to be reduced.

A control system for a plurality of tuck-in selvedge forming devices in a loom having a variable reed beat-up position includes a main shaft, a drive shaft connected to all the tuck-in selvedge forming devices, a modulator driven by the main shaft and having an output shaft which pauses at least once during each revolution of the main shaft, as well as a coupling unit rotatable with the drive shaft and operative to be selectively rotatably coupled to the modulator output shaft so that the drive shaft is driven by the main shaft. The coupling unit includes a ring fixed to the drive shaft and a first cover pivoted to the ring so that a key can enter into the recess of the modulator output shaft to rotatably couple the coupling unit to the modulator output shaft during its pauses. A second lever is biased so as to follow contours of a control cam and prevent the first key from entering the recess of the modulator output shaft. An electromagnet controlled by a logic unit cooperates with the second lever to prevent the second lever from engaging the first lever.

A retention nozzle is provided at the catch side of the weaving machine for clamping or retaining the weft thread end during severance of the weft thread by means of a shear. A transfer nozzle is also provided at the catch side. When the weft thread lies over the transfer nozzle after being severed, the transfer nozzle is supplied with blower air and subsequently the supply of blower air to the retention nozzle is interrupted. In this manner the weft thread end is withdrawn from a catch channel of the retention nozzle and blown into a catch channel of the transfer nozzle. During this operation, the weft thread end is conducted through an eyelet of a selvedge-laying needle and thereby transferred to the latter. The retention nozzle permits severance of the weft thread by means of the shear even before the weft thread is in alignment with the eyelet of the selvedge-laying needle and the transfer nozzle.

An improved apparatus for forming reinforced selvages of a fabric on a shuttleless loom. A filling yarn inserted into a warp sheds from a given supply source by a reciprocating inserting carrier is positively cut by a cutting apparatus at a position slightly inside the selvage simultaneously with a positive restriction of yarn supply and the cut end of the yarn which remains is woven into the selvage. Cutting operation of the apparatus at a given moment is caused by a revolution of a programming cam synchronized with the crankshaft revolution. Fly back of a cut end of the yarn can be prevented by a warp yarn depresser disposed to the apparatus.
