摘要: A liquid containment device for capturing and retaining any liquid falling into the device, such as from a leak, spill or run-off of another liquid container, where the device is designed to fit between the parallel rails of a railroad track with a railroad car positioned above, comprising a generally rectilinear pan or tray and a removable cover which directs rain water into a drain opening which corresponds to an apertured drain column rising from the bottom of the pan, such that with the cover in place rain water is directed into the drain column and passed underneath the pan rather than into the pan itself. Multiple pans may be connected in line through connector fittings in their end walls, or drain conduits may be connected to the fittings for removal of the liquid from the pan. Apertured grating members and absorbent mats may be placed within the pans. The pans may be used in conjunction with lateral pans positioned on the outside of the rails.

摘要: A containment reservoir for a liquid, such as petroleum oil, comprising, a walled ground containment space or pit, opening upwardly, with the space containing a liquid impervious flexible liner generally following the contour of the space, and with the liner comprising a layer of pervious fabric material having on at least one of its sides a layer of liquid impervious material, such as rubber, the liner being operable to prevent escape of liquid through the liner from the containment space; means are provided coacting with the liner covered containment space for removing liquid from the reservoir. A covering layer of pervious fabric material filters anything, including liquid, passing into the reservoir. A method of forming the reservoir from predetermined width strips of liner stock, and a method of retaining and salvaging oil spilled along a railroad track environment is also disclosed.

摘要: A system for collecting liquid spillage at rail facilities comprises relatively small and lightweight collector pan modules supported by the ties of a railroad track and sealingly joined together so as to extend alongside and between the rails of the track. The pans are individually formed to rest on the ties and for drainage empty into drain conduits provided between the ties.

摘要: A metallic, leak proof fluid collection assembly for railroad roadbed wherein apron-like elements are provided in association with each side of the web of each rail and make a fluid tight seal therewith, while being electrically insulated therefrom. Central collector pans in endwise relationship are affixed to those portions of the ties between the rails. Pairs of side collector pans in endwise relationship are affixed to the end portions of the ties outside the rails. Each rail apron is located adjacent one of the side or central collector pans. One or more cross drains, recessed between adjacent pairs of ties and extending transversely of the fluid collection assembly, may be located at the ends of the central and side collector pans. The rail aprons drain to the collector pans and the collector pans, in turn, drain to cross drains. Each cross drain may be provided with a telescoping sleeve protected by a trash screen and connected to a suitable underground piping system. A plurality of the fluid collection assemblies may be provided in end-to-end relationship to form a continuous fluid collection system.

摘要: A method for collecting liquid spillage at rail facilities using a structure that may include a plurality of center pans (10) and side pans (14) arranged in end to end relation. The pans (10, 14) are formed of a plastic material, preferably high density polyethylene. Each pan (10, 14) has a vertical drain pipe (54, 78) which fits within an elastomeric sleeve (60) about an upper drain opening (34) in a transverse drain conduit (28) positioned between a pair of crossties beneath the pans (10, 14). Each center pan (10) has a resilient upwardly inclined side flange or lip (44). For installation, the center pan (10) is preferably installed by first inserting one resilient side flange (44) beneath the head (16) of an adjacent rail (12) and then lowering the bottom (40) of the pan (10) onto the upper surface of the crossties (24) with drain pipe (54) received in sealing relation within the aligned elastomeric seal (60). Then, the opposed side flange (44) supported on the upper surface of the head (16) is forced or pushed downwardly beneath the head (16) where it snaps into sealing relation generally at the juncture of the vertical web (18) and the head (16) of the rail (12). Removable covers 90, 104, and 90A, are shown in FIGS. 8-11 for covering center pans (10) and side pans (14).

摘要: In accordance with illustrative embodiments of the invention, a drain basin system for collecting liquids and light solids that are spilled while loading or unloading a rail tank car includes a system of precast concrete pan members. Center pan members which are positioned between the rails have upwardly inclined flanges on their outer sides which extend partly over the plates of the rails, and outside pan members have identical flanges on their inner sides and upstanding walls on their outer sides. A pair of the system of pan members positioned end-to-end are arranged to have a higher elevation at the joint between them so that liquids run toward opposite ends where they enter trench drains either directly or via sealed tubular drains. Flashing strips cover the abutting joints, and also extend along the inclined flanges on opposite sides of each rail and up underneath the sides of the head thereof. In one embodiment, rigid tubes and flexible elastomer seal sleeves provide drain paths in a non-rigid connection.
