Spray carburettors.- The carburettor has a number of conduits which may supply fuel alone or a mixture of fuel and air to the mixing-chamber, the arrangement being such that as the throttle is opened the number of conduits supplying fuel and air is increased, but when the throttle is fully opened, all the conduits supply fuel only. The throttle valve 16, Fig. 3, has an adjustable opening 17 into which, when the throttle is closed, extends a nozzle 14 having lateral orifices 15 fed from the float chamber through an adjustable passage 9. The fuel to the float chamber is filtered. A series of orifices 38, 40, 41, which are all below the throttle when it is closed, communicate with the float-chamber through a passage 36, which is independent of the passage 9 and is controlled by a valve 21, Fig. 1, actuated through a lever 31 by a cam 33 on the spindle 34 of the throttle valve. This lever presses on a spring- loaded sleeve 28 in which the fuel valve 21 is adjustably mounted. At starting, fuel is supplied only from the nozzle 14. For small openings of the throttle, the nozzle 14, conduits 40, 41, and some of the conduits 38 supply a mixture of air and fuel, air entering by the orifices still below the throttle. When the throttle is fully open all the conduits supply fuel.
