Abstract: A method is provided for supplying alternating current (AC) electricity. The method includes receiving direct current (DC) electricity from a source of electric power at a motorized pump, and converting the DC electricity from the source of electric power to AC electricity. This includes converting the DC electricity to first motive power at the motorized pump to move water from a source location to at least one supply location. The water is supplied from the at least one supply location to a turbine, and kinetic energy of the water is converted to second motive power at the turbine. The second motive power is converted to the AC electricity at an electric generator that is connected to the turbine, and the AC electricity is supplied from the electric generator.

Abstract: The world is being subjected to droughts that lower the lakes that provide the water for hydropower electricity production. Cities and towns around the dams also consume the water. At a certain point, the water level is too low for the dam to generate power. Hydropower Water Source Modification is a solution to this dilemma. A main piping loop from the output of the water after it passes through the turbine that spins the generator is connected to a high powered water pump at either the base of the dam and/or at the top of the dam. The piping loop is then connected to the intake of the penstock and completes the loop. The power supplied to the water pumps can be from one or more sources.

Abstract: A sealing system for a Gravity Power Plant having a shaft (104) with a shaft wall (105) and a piston (102) incorporates a seal assembly support base (202) anchored into the shaft wall and surrounding the piston. A seal mount has a radial flange (210) to anchor the seal mount to the support base (202) and a vertical flange (212) extending from an inner circumference of the radial flange. A seal assembly (206) circumferentially contacting the piston, has a plurality of circumferentially spaced clamp assemblies (227) to engage the seal assembly to the vertical flange, the clamp assemblies having an open position releasing the seal assembly from the vertical flange and a closed position constraining the seal assembly on the vertical flange. For seismic isolation of the seal assembly the radial flange is supported on a lower bearing (406) supported on a top surface of the seal assembly support base proximate an inner surface. The radial flange (410) extends inward from the inner surface with the vertical flange spaced from the inner surface by a radial relief (428) within a gap between the seal assembly support base and the piston. An upper bearing is supported in engagement with a top surface (411) of the radial flange (410) of the seal mount (404).

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus that adapts the rate of its computational work to match the availability of energy harvested from a stochastic energy source; and, with respect to some types of energy harvesting, regulates the rate of energy capture, the rate of energy conversion, and the rate of consumption of stored potential energy, through its alteration, regulation, and/or adjustment, of that same computational work load.

Abstract: A power production system is provided that includes: a hydraulic turbine, installable in a penstock and being rotatable in a first rotation direction by effect of a flow of fluid flowing in the penstock in a downward direction; an energy converter group; an accumulator; a control unit, configured to operate the system in a power generation mode, in which the energy converter group receives an input mechanical power from the hydraulic turbine rotating in the first rotation direction, generates an output electric power and supplies said output electrical power to an external grid and/or to the accumulator, and in a downward pushing mode, in which the energy converter group absorbs an input electrical power from the accumulator and generates an output mechanical power to move the hydraulic turbine.

Abstract: The system according to the invention comprises a weighted piston (30), which has the role of accumulating gravitational potential energy by lifting it vertically inside a cylinder (10) with the reinforced concrete wall, filled with water, the piston (30) being provided in the center with a high pressure pipe (20) which conducts pressurized water from the base of the cylinder to an electricity generating system (50) using impulse turbines, the water machined in the cycle of electricity production (50) being discharged back into the cylinder (10), above the piston. For the cycle of absorption and storage of energy from an electrical network, the system also comprises an electrical energy absorption system (60) which takes over the water above the piston (30) and inserts it into the high pressure channel (20), under the piston (30).

Abstract: An underwater turbo-generator unit for producing electrical power has a pressure-resistant shell that defines a sealed internal chamber. At least one water inlet extends through the shell to effect fluid communication between the chamber and a body of water surrounding the shell. A turbine is supported within the chamber to turn on a spin axis in response to admission of a flow of water into the chamber via the or each water inlet. The shell is arranged to maintain a gas-filled space within the chamber, facilitating the use of a Pelton turbine that turns about a vertical spin axis. The or each water inlet communicates with at least one tubular penstock structure that can be supported by the unit outside the shell. The chamber communicates with, and drains water into, a fluid storage volume such as a pipeline positioned at a level beneath the chamber.
