摘要： A fastener assembly for securing two components to one another. The fastener assembly includes a barrel or pin that has a radially extending hole in the barrel. The pin also has a reduced diametrical portion on at least one end to form a shoulder and possibly on both ends. The pin is inserted into a hole formed into a hollow or sandwich component. The shoulder engages against a wall on the component to orient and secure the pin in the hole. A threaded fastener is then inserted transversely through the two components to engage in the radially extending hole. The threaded fastener is then rotated to secure the two components t o one another.

摘要： An apparatus is disclosed for aiding in the speed and simplicity of the adjustment of the clicker-style cam bolts employed by TRA-type snowmobile drive clutches, manufactured by Bombardier Recreational Products. The apparatus comprises a barrel type nut with a collared head and a compression wire spring which fits telescopically over said nut and against said collared head, and a locking set screw to secure the apparatus against rotational movement or removal. This assembly replaces the conventional hexagonal lock nut presently used on TRA-type drive clutches. This apparatus enables the user to change the linear position of the cam bolt in the drive clutch housing to enable the hexagonal head of the clicker-style bolt to clear its respective hexagonally indexed pocket, which is molded into the drive clutch housing, and to be turned to any one of six different degrees of rotation, thereby changing the shift-out RPM setting of the drive clutch quickly and with greater ease than conventional methods.

摘要： A shearable fastener has a threaded shank adapted for engagement with a threaded bore and a head portion formed for engagement with a drive tool, the shank being formed with a series of axially separated weakenings defining a series of shear planes. The weakenings are formed such that the applied torque necessary to cause the shank to shear increases progressively from the shear plane furthest from the head portion to the shear plane nearest the head portion. The weakenings are holes, grooves or slits formed in the shank and the radius at the bottom of the holes, grooves or slits is varied to produce or contribute to the increase in shear torque.

摘要： A method of reinforcing threads. Firstly, provide a workpiece. Secondly, determine the position on the workpiece that a hole is to be drilled and into which threads are to be tapped. Thirdly, bore an opening in the workpiece which transversely intersects the hole. The opening must have a diameter which is greater that a diameter of the hole. Fourthly, insert an insert into the opening in interference fit relation. The insert is of a harder material than the workpiece. Fifthly, bore the hole through the workpiece and into the insert. Sixthly, tap threads in the hole, such that a portion of the threads are reinforced by virtue of being tapped into the harder material of the insert.

摘要： A barrel nut particularly adapted for high strength applications, and method of manufacture which results in a great cost reduction as compared with the prior art. The barrel nut comprises a semi-cylindrical barrel element having a recess for the nut element, the recess having side as well as end walls. The side walls are pierced and the nut element has ears extending into these openings for retention purposes. The method of manufacture comprises forming a cylindrical slug, forming the slug into the recessed barrel shape, drilling the bolt opening, piercing the side walls of the recess, placing the nut element in the recess, and crimping the side walls inwardly to retain the nut element ears.
