摘要: A magnetorheological fluid clutch apparatus comprises an input rotor adapted to be coupled to a power input, the input rotor having a first set of at least one input shear surface, and a second set of at least one output shear surface. An output rotor is rotatably mounted about the input rotor for rotating about a common axis with the input rotor, the output rotor having a first set of at least one output shear surface, and a second set of at least one output shear surface, the first sets of the input rotor and the output rotor separated by at least a first annular space and forming a first transmission set, the second sets of the input rotor and the output rotor separated by at least a second annular space and forming a second transmission set. Magnetorheological fluid is in each of the annular spaces, the MR fluid configured to generate a variable amount of torque transmission between the sets of input rotor and output rotor when subjected to a magnetic field. A pair of electromagnets are configured to deliver a magnetic field through the MR fluid, the electromagnets configured to vary the strength of the magnetic field, whereby actuation of at least one of the pair of electromagnets results in torque transmission from the at least one input rotor to the output rotor.

摘要: A magneto-rheological fluid includes a magnetic particle mixture, and a dispersion medium for dispersing the magnetic particle mixture. The magnetic particle mixture contains the first magnetic particles and the second magnetic particles. The first magnetic particles have an average particle diameter of 1 μm or more and 30 μm or less. The second magnetic particles are particles of a soft magnetic material, and have an average particle diameter of 50 nm or more and 200 nm or less. A ratio of the second magnetic particles in the magnetic particle mixture is 10% by mass or more and 40% by mass or less.

摘要: The invention relates to a torque transmission unit for a motor vehicle with a permanently driven primary axle and a switchable secondary axle, comprising a first connecting part and a second connecting part. The invention furthermore comprises several lamellas that are divided into primary lamellas and secondary lamellas in an alternating arrangement. The unit further comprises a planetary gear system, comprising an at least first gear element, rotationally connected with the first connection part, a second gear element, rotationally connected with the second connection part, and a third gear element, rotationally connected with the primary lamellas. The secondary lamellas are rotationally connected with the first connection part, the second connection part or with a stationary housing part. The torque transmission unit further comprises at least one electric coil for producing a magnetic field, acting on a magnetorheoplogical medium, wherein each primary lamella and secondary lamella is surrounded at least on two sides by the magnetorheological medium. The planetary gear system induces a torque of the primary lamellas into acceleration with a turning movement of the second connecting part in relation to the first connecting part.

摘要: A torque transfer mechanism is provided for controlling the magnitude of a clutch engagement force exerted on a multi-plate clutch assembly that is operably disposed between a first rotary and a second rotary member. The torque transfer mechanism includes an actuator having a first segment fixed for rotation with the first rotary member and a second segment having a screw thread formed thereon which is rotatably and slidably disposed within a chamber filled with magnetorheological fluid. An electromagnetic coil is disposed in proximity to the chamber and is selectively energized for varying the viscosity of the magnetorheological fluid so as to induce axial movement of the actuator for engaging the multi-plate clutch assembly.

摘要: A vehicle differential includes a case which is rotatably supported within an axle housing. The case is formed having a center wall which divides the interior of thereof into first and second fluid chambers. The ends of a pair of axle shafts extend into the case and respectively within the fluid chambers. Each of the fluid chambers is filled with a rheological fluid. Respective electromagnetic coils are disposed within or adjacent to each of the fluid chambers. An electronic controller is provided for supplying electrical current to each of the electromagnetic coils in response to sensed operating conditions of the vehicle, such as rotational speed and torque of the axle shafts. By varying the magnitude of the electrical current supplied to the electromagnetic coils, the strength of the magnetic field applied to the rheological fluid contained in each of fluid chambers can be varied. As a result, the resistance to flow or shear of the rheological fluid, which affects the amount of torque which is transmitted from the rotatably driven case to each of the axe shafts, can be varied in response to the operating conditions of the vehicle.
