Abstract: A pipe loosening device and methods are shown. In one example, the pipe loosening device enables a method wherein a pipe to be replaced is deformed but not burst, and a portion of a sidewall of the pipe is forced outward into the surrounding soil to compact a local region of the surrounding soil and loosen the existing pipe. The pipe may then pulled from the ground along an axis of the pipe.

Abstract: A pullhead includes a housing that has a first end and a second end. The housing is separable between a first body and a second body. The first and second bodies are pivotally coupled at a joint and the first and second bodies together define an interior pocket of the housing. The interior pocket has an interior pocket width. The pullhead head includes a pulling feature at the first end. The interior pocket includes an interior retainer flange that has an inner width and is disposed within the interior pocket. The inner width is less than the interior pocket width. The first body and second body are pivotable relative to each other around an axis at the joint that is transverse to a pulling direction.

Abstract: A poly pipe installation device constructed from a frame supporting a trenching tool for making a trench with side berms, a pipe roll supporting axles for a poly pipe roll so that the roll can be unwound to place the poly pipe into the trench. The poly pipe roll unrolls the pipe past a guide and under a wheel to position the pipe in the trench where it then partially buried with dirt drug off of the berms with angled drag chains. The poly pipe roll being unrolled is one of up to four rolls that are supported off of a horizontal turntable rotates each roll into the unrolling position and that also supports and stores multiple pipe rolls so that long runs of pipe can be laid quickly.

Abstract: A pullback system to install or replace underground utilities that is used with a hammer used in horizontal directional drilling operations. The system comprises a drill bit attached to the hammer. The drill bit comprises a cutting face comprising a first and second passage. The system further comprises a pullback adapter comprising an attachment member, a first member, and a second member. The attachment member may be secured to the cutting face of the drill bit by inserting the first member of the pullback adapter through the first passage of the cutting face and inserting the second member of the pullback adapter through the second passage of the cutting face. The first member secures to the second member within an internal cavity of the drill bit to hold the attachment member for movement with the drill bit. A new pipe may be secured to a shackle on the pullback adapter. The drilling machine will then pull the hammer rearwardly through the borehole which in turn pulls the new pipe into the borehole.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for the trenchless laying of a pipeline, the medium pipe, from a starting location to a target location. First of all a protective pipe is introduced into the ground between the starting location and the target location in a trenchless method. A medium pipe whose outside diameter is smaller than the inside diameter of the protective pipe is introduced into the protective pipe starting from the starting location and moved forward as far as the target location. The medium pipe is stabilized in its spatial position with respect to the protective pipe in the radial direction. The protective pipe is finally removed from the ground again while maintaining the spatial position of the medium pipe.
