摘要:
A substantially noiseless firearm and ammunition therefor, in which the projectile of the ammunition is attached to the front end of a sabot which fills the cross-sectional area of the barrel and is fired with the projectile. The barrel is provided with lands designed to catch the sabot at the front end of the barrel in such manner that the barrel is sealed off in a gas-proof fashion by the sabot.

A sabot stripper for stripping a sabot within its confines without rotatil forces or mechanical contact, having a gas restricting chamber of a uniform diameter greater than the bore diameter of a weapon, connected to the bore of the weapon by a transition chamber of increasing cross-sectional diameter from the bore to the gas restricting chamber.

A launcher for launching a projectile includes a launch piston for engaging and driving the projectile from the launcher and a launch brake that constrains the piston to enable separation of the piston from the projectile. The launch brake is configured to have minimal to no effect on projectile exit velocity and exit trajectory from the launcher. The launch brake is also configured to reduce the velocity of the launch piston via coupling of the masses of the launch piston and the launch brake. The coupling allows, separation of the projectile from the launch piston and reduces or prevents a negative effect on stabilization of the projectile upon exit from the launcher.

A system for airborne dispersal of chemicals comprising a compressed gas gun having a gun body, a grip, a barrel, a trigger, a compressed gas source and a cylindrical collar positioned at an exit end of said barrel, having a bore therethrough and equipped with a depth-adjustable knife-edge disposed at an exit end of the collar, protruding into the bore, so as to slit a capsule containing a chemical solution or suspension upon exit from the collar and disperse the chemical solution or suspension.

The present invention relates to weapon systems that accelerate projectiles using gases generated by the rapid combustion of a solid propellant, in particular, such a weapon system is able to vary the barrel exiting velocity of the projectile through a barrel venting means. In one embodiment, a front venting means exhausts gas generated by combusting propellant from behind the accelerating projectile and redirects a portion of the exhausted gas either to at least one fixed volume, to the front of the projectile, or to a combination of at least one fixed volume and to the front of the projectile. Redirecting some of the exhausted gas to the front of the projectile restrains the projectile, thereby slowing the projectile, and thus further decreasing the muzzle velocity of the projectile. In another embodiment, gas from behind the projectile is exhausted into a fixed volume, thereby decreasing projectile acceleration, and thus, the muzzle velocity of the projectile. One can use a combination of fixed volume venting and front venting. A saboted projectile can be used for ammunition. By coupling the energy requirements needed to release the sabot to the barrel exiting velocity of the projectile, one can achieve a selectively lethal projectile. The venting means can be variable as to the velocity and mass of propellant gases exhausted or redirected and can be coupled to an operator selection switch, as well as to an automatic range finding scope.

A sabot separator includes a sabot separation cylinder equipped with a pair of rail electrodes extending axially and connected with a muzzle end of a barrel of a projectile accelerator. An electrical power source is connected between the rail electrodes and applies a voltage to the rail electrodes for producing a force in a direction for decelerating the accelerating sabot. When the sabot enters the sabot separation cylinder, an electric current flows through the sabot and the sabot is suddenly stopped by a braking force resulting from the flow of the electric current.

An augmented service pistol weapons system and ammunition has an extended barrel and an adapter sleeve and mount which supports the barrel and partially surrounds a forward end of the service pistol. Two hinged flaps have inward extending clamps which engage an inside of the front of a trigger guard on the pistol. A turn-to-release locking pin holds the two flaps together as the flaps are closed on the trigger guard. An arm rest extends laterally rearwardly along sides of the pistol and terminates in a curved rearward extension to support the augmented service pistol on an arm of the user. A fifty round magazine replaces the standard pistol handle magazine. Scopes and aiming devices are mounted above the extended barrel. A foregrip is removable and positionable at opposite lateral sides of the extended barrel and below the barrel. A variable power function assembly surrounds the barrel and allows selected release of gas to slow projectiles. A shredding device near the muzzle shreds bands on the projectile. A valve on the variable power adjustment releases propellant gas from the barrel and sends the propellant gas forward to the flash suppressor on the muzzle. A shredder immediately before the flash suppressor extends blades and points into the barrel to shred rings which hold submunition segments and deployable air brakes in a projectile. A case which is attachable to a service belt holds the mount and extended barrel and scope and aiming devices, and three fifty round magazines, for rapid attachment to a service pistol.

A sabot fragment diverter deflects selected sabot fragments discarded by ot type ammunition in a directionally controlled manner to prevent direct fragment impact with the firing platform or impact of a deflected fragment with the projectile from which it is discarded. A fragment diverter cone which includes a deflecting surface, a fragment cutter and a barrier dam is connected to the muzzle end of a gun system by an extender cage and a mounting section.
