A photographic device which has a film magazine which feeds photographic film over an aperture plate has apparatus for accurately registering the center of an image frame relative to the center of the transport perforations of the film. A relatively slow moving motor drives a film take-up reel to feed film over guide sprockets to move the film one frame into close proximity with the registration position. The motor is thereafter stopped and a platen having accurately disposed truncated pyramid shaped pins directed toward the film is forced toward the film with the pins entering perforations in the film and recesses in the aperture plate. The pins act to move the film minute amounts as required as they enter the perforations to correct the position of the film to precise registration. After the frame is exposed signals are supplied to remove the platen from the film engaging position and actuate the motor for the subsequent cycle. A cam driven by one of the sprockets controls a switch which stops the motor after one frame has been fed. An electrical solenoid is utilized to remove the platen from the film engaging position and after the motor is stopped a signal is supplied to deactivate the solenoid and springs thereafter force the platen toward the film.

A motor speed sensor generates a signal indicative of whether the motor speed is above or below a certain level. A shutter-state switch generates a signal indicating whether the shutter is in set or unset state. A motor-control switch is controlled from the output of a logic-circuit stage which receives the above three signals. During normal operation before the film end is reached, the perforation signal is used to generate a deenergize-motor signal, but in dependence upon the shutter-state signal. When the film end is reached no further perforations follow, but the transport motor comes to a halt because it cannot pull the film further. The motor-speed signal indicates this and, when applied to the logic-circuit stage, causes the motor to be deenergized if the shutter is in set state.

The mechanism includes a metering pawl which drops into a film perforation just prior to the complete advancement of the film by a full frame increment. The metering mechanism further includes a pawl which cooperates with the film advancing member during the final stage of the incremental film advance so as to transport the film by engagement of the metering pawl with the film at a speed at least as great as that imparted to the film by the film advancing member thereby assuring accurate film metering without the possibility of damaging the film. The mechanism is further adapted to prevent incomplete operation of the shutter cocking and film transport member as well as to prevent premature shutter action.

A metering apparatus for a filmstrip forms with at least one perforation for each film frame including a metering member which is configured for engaging at least one perforation for each film frame, so as to prevent the filmstrip from moving in a film advancing direction. According to the invention, the metering member includes at least one cam follower for contacting a trailing edge of a perforation to cam the metering member out of engagement with the filmstrip when the filmstrip is moved in an opposite film rewinding direction. The metering apparatus also includes a mechanism for retracting the metering member to allow the filmstrip to be subsequently advanced for film frame exposure. The retracting mechanism is mechanically coupled to the release of a high energy lever used for tripping the shutter blade of a camera so that advancement and exposure of the filmstrip can be controlled in a simple manner.
