An image forming apparatus includes an attachable/detachable member, a fixing device, a shutter, an opening/closing interlocking part, and a pressing interlocking part. The fixing device is provided on an upstream side of the attachable/detachable member in a draw-out direction of the attachable/detachable member, and fixes a toner image on a medium passing through a pressurized area formed between a heating member and a pressing member. The opening/closing interlocking part moves the shutter to an opening position when the attachable/detachable member is attached, and moves the shutter to a closing position when the attachable/detachable member is drawn out. The pressing interlocking part moves the heating member in a direction of pressing it against the other when the shifter is moved to the closing position, and moves the heating member in a direction of separating it away from the other when the shutter is moved to the closing position.

A fixing device includes a fixing member, a pressing member, a cover, and a separation member. The cover is movable between a closing position at which a conveyance path is formed and an opening position at which the conveyance path is exposed. The cover includes a recess. The separation member is movable between a contact position at which the separation member comes in contact with a face of the fixing member and a withdrawing position at which the separation member is separated from the fixing member. The separation member separates a medium from the face of the fixing member in a state in which the separation member is arranged at the contact position. A tip end part of the separation member enters an interior of the recess of the cover in a state in which the separation member is arranged at the withdrawing position.

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus main body and a fixing device. The apparatus main body is formed such that its interior can be opened. The fixing device is provided in the interior of the apparatus main body and configured to fix a toner image on a medium to the medium by heating and pressing the toner image. The fixing device is supported by the apparatus main body in such a way as to pivot so as to be disposed on an outside of the apparatus main body in a state where the interior of the apparatus main body is opened.

The cam is supported between the first and second supporting bodies swingable in the lateral plate and has a depression gradually inclined from an upstream side to a downstream side in a rotation direction. The protrusion is protruded from the rotating shaft and meets the depression. The pressing member presses the cam opposite the protrusion. The cam rotates and meets the roller to shift the second supporting body and to extend and contract the spring, and changes a nip pressure from a first pressure to a lower second pressure.

A damper mechanism has first and second rail members, a biasing member, and a slide member. The first rail member is fixed inside the opening/closing member along the up/down direction, and has an oblong guide hole formed therein extending along the longitudinal direction. The second rail member has fixed to a top end part thereof an engaging pin inserted through the guide hole, and has a bottom end part swingably supported on the apparatus main body. The biasing member biases the first and second rail members in a direction in which these approach each other. The slide member is made of resin fixed to the engaging pin, slides while in contact with the first rail member and the opening/closing member, and prevents contact between the engaging pin and an inner circumferential rim of the guide hole.

A fixing device includes a clutch provided between a driving motor and a rotary cam, and a control unit. In a case in which press-contact force of the pressure roller is a high load, when a jam state has been detected, the control unit transmits power to the rotary cam by switching the clutch to a power transmission state, and stops the driving motor at the time of rotation of the rotary cam by a predetermined angle.

The locking assembly includes a lock member slidingly coupled to the frame between a first position in which the lock member engages with the fuser assembly for locking the fuser assembly to the frame and a second position in which the lock member is disengaged from the fuser assembly to allow the fuser assembly to be disconnected and removed from the frame. A lever mechanism is movably coupled to the frame and coupled to the lock member, wherein actuation of the lever mechanism moves the lock member between the first position and the second position.

The executing portion executes the cleaning process before said display displays the state, when the information stored in said storing portion of said fixing portion mounted in said main assembly indicates non-execution of said cleaning process.

An image forming apparatus includes: an image forming station; heating and pressing rollers forming a fixing nip therebetween; a mechanism for changing the relative positional relation between the heating and pressing rollers between a contacting position in which they contact each other, a first spacing position in which they are spaced, and the second spacing position in which they are spaced by a shorter distance; and a controller for controlling the changing mechanism such that in a period after the sheet passes through the fixing nip and before a next sheet reaches the fixing nip, the rollers are brought into the first spacing position when the period is longer than a first predetermined period, and that the rollers are brought into the second spacing position when the period is shorter than the first predetermined period and is longer than a second predetermined period.
