A reset mechanism of a counter for counting the number of times of image formation is mounted on an image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus includes a unit constituting at least a part of an image forming section which is detachably mounted on a predetermined portion of the main body of the image forming apparatus, a driving mechanism for driving the unit, and a counter for counting the number of times of image formation for reporting the time for replacement of the unit. The reset mechanism has a reset switch provided for on the main body for resetting the counter, and an operating member which is provided for on the unit for operating the reset switch. If a unit which has not been used is mounted on the main body, the operating member which is previously set in the operating position resets the reset switch. If the unit is initially driven by the driving mechanism, the operating member is moved to the operating position by the driving mechanism, so that the connection between the operating member and the driving mechanism is released. The operating member which is moved to the non-operating position can be held in the non-operating position, so that the unit never operates the reset switch.

Manual operation of a quantity selector knob rotates a selector wheel carrying a stop thereon. An indexing wheel is mounted in adjacent coaxial relationship with the selector wheel and is indexed in one rotary direction in response to cyclical operation of a component of a duplicating machine. The indexing wheel carries a formation for abutting engagement with said stop. Biasing means engage the indexing wheel for urging the latter in a direction opposite said one direction thereby to bring said formation into engagement with said stop. The indexing wheel operates means for deactuating the cyclical operation of the aforesaid machine component when the indexing wheel occupies a predetermined rotary position. In the reset mode of operation, restraining means prevent rotation of the selector wheel during rotation of the indexing wheel in said one direction; in the count-down mode of operation, the force of the restraining means is overcome by frictional engagement between the indexing wheel and the selector wheel thereby causing the latter and the selector knob to rotate with the indexing wheel in said one direction.

Processing raw data stored in an historian device for determining an amount of products passed through a process element in a process control environment is described. A count value is incremented by a counter at a rate at which products pass through the process element. The count value rolls over to zero when the count value reaches a rollover value R. An historian device periodically receives count value data points from the counter. A deadband value D is set in the historian device for distinguishing between rollovers, resets, and reversals. A client device queries the historian device for an amount of products passed through the process element for a timeframe. The historian device selects a set of count value data points from within the queried timeframe. The historian device determines, based on the selected data points and their quality, an amount of products passed through the process element.
