The controller selects one command of the plurality of commands included in the command list. The controller selects one magazine that stores therein one recording medium designated by the one selected command, based on the magazine information, the controller moves the one selected magazine between the storing position of the one selected magazine and the plurality of recorder and player apparatuses using the carrier mechanism. The controller extracts all commands designating recording media stored in the one selected magazine, from the command list, based on the magazine information. The controller moves all the recording media designated by the extracted commands between the one selected magazine and the plurality of recorder and player apparatuses using the carrier mechanism.

A disc device with which the disc replacing time can further be suppressed includes a picker for conveying a plurality of discs in a stacked state, and a carrier which retains the plurality of discs in a stacked state, which supplies the retained plurality of discs to a respective one of a plurality of disc drives, respectively, and which collects the supplied plurality of discs in a stacked state. The carrier is structured to retain a stacked object made up of a first plurality of discs collected from the plurality of disc drives and a second plurality of discs to be supplied next to the plurality of disc drives.
摘要:
A disc device which takes out a disc stored in a magazine and conveys the disc to any disc drive, in which the magazine comprises a tray which stores a plurality of discs, and a case which has a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape and which stores the tray. The case has an opening at front face into which the tray can be inserted into or taken out therefrom. The tray has an outer shape being substantially rectangular in planar view. The tray is provided with cut portions formed at corner portions positioned on the back side of the case being cut off. The disc device further comprises a picker which holds the tray and draws out the tray from the case. The picker rotates the tray when the cut portion passes through the opening.

A stocker for information recording media is capable of stocking the information recording media and is to be loaded in a changer or unloaded from it. The stocker comprises a trace record device for providing a trace of lodging or dislodging operation of at least one information recording medium when the above-mentioned operation is carried out in an off-line condition.

A pair of pins 2c, 2d is arranged on the left and right of each of a plurality of trays 2 placed vertically movably so as to protrude laterally, whereas separating cams 82 are arranged on both sides of the trays 2 in a protrudable and withdrawable way. The separating cams 82 are formed with four first separating control parts 82c1 for moving upward the pins 2c, 2d of the selected tray 2 and the tray(s) 2 thereabove, four second separating control parts 82c2 for moving upward only the pins 2c, 2d of the tray(s) 2 above the selected tray 2, and four third separating control parts 82d each for engaging with only a pair of pins 2c, 2d of the selected tray 2. Movement of the separating cam 82 forms spaces above and below the selected tray 2 to hold a disc on the selected tray 2 fro above and below for reproduction on the spot.

The horizontally oriented autoloader for data storage cartridges orients the data storage cartridges in a horizontally oriented loading bin, and occupies a vertical space consistent with the vertical dimensions of the associated cartridge drive. These features of the present autoloader thereby enable multiple autoloader equipped cartridge drives to be mounted in a vertical stack. This increases the effective utilization of the computer center floor space. In addition, the bookshelf design of the autoloader trays allows for easier loading and unloading of cartridges, with the data storage cartridges being maintained in the same order and orientation as they were in the manual storage racks from which they were removed. The horizontal data storage cartridge movement mechanism is spring loaded to attain higher performance without motor drive. Furthermore, smaller motors are used in the data storage loading mechanism than in the vertically oriented autoloader systems to implement the necessary autoloader functions while consuming less power.

A cartridge changer having a predetermined width across a predetermined rotational plane, includes a rack being rotatable and storing at least first and second cartridges in a predetermined rotational plane, wherein at least one distance extending across the first and second cartridges in the predetermined rotational plane and through a rotational axis of the rack is greater than the predetermined width of the cartridge changer, and a rotator for rotating the rack in the predetermined rotational plane, so as to exchange a position of the first and second cartridges within the rotational plane without exceeding the predetermined width of the cartridge changer. The rotator more specifically performs a combination of rotation and shifting of the first and second cartridges with respect to one another within the rotational plane to accomplish exchange of the first and second cartridges within the rotational plane without exceeding the predetermined width of the cartridge changer. The shifting is more specifically linear displacement of the first and second cartridges in a direction parallel to a diameter defined in the predetermined rotational plane and through the rotational axis of the rack, and wherein an amount of linear displacement of the first and second cartridges at any given point of rotation is dependent on an amount of angular displacement of the rack from a predetermined position.

Disclosed is an automated data storage library for storage and retrieval and selective export and import of portable data storage media stored in storage cells of portable magazines. Each portable magazine has a detent, and has registration surfaces, such as a sleeve at each of two corners. A columnar elevator supports a columnar stack of the portable magazines, and has an opening at its top level external to the library, and pushes the stack toward the top level. Fixed registration shafts in the library mate with the magazine sleeves to prevent lateral movement while allowing columnar movement of the magazines. The media may be accessed by a picker at the storage cells of the magazines at all levels in the stack internal to the library. A releasable latch engages the detent of the magazine at the penultimate level of the stack (e.g., the top position within the library), holding the stack against the upward pushing of the elevator, and external latches each engage a magazine in the stack at the top level. Selected ones of the latches are released by a library manager or operator to allow the elevator to push a selected magazine in the column to the top level, where it may be exported. The magazines held at the penultimate level or lower may still be accessed by the picker.
