摘要:
A control rod drive system for a nuclear reactor that employs hydraulic cylinders to operate a conventional plunger/gripper drive system to incrementally move control rods into and out of the core of a reactor. The pressure differential for driving hydraulic pistons within the cylinders is obtained from the difference in pressure between the outside and inside of the core barrel of the reactor and control of the pistons is obtained from external solenoids attached to the reactor control system. The external solenoids regulate a charging pump feed to Poppet valves that control the hydraulic feed to the cylinders. A hydraulic piston/cylinder drive is also provided for the shutdown rods which operate in either an all in or out of the core condition.

Installations for mounting, controlling, and guiding control rods in and outside a vessel may be removed and passage through an upper internal part may thereby be avoided. An upper internal part is placed near the core of a reactor and laterally emerges on the outside of the vessel. All the transmission, control, and fluid systems pass through this internal part and emerge, by a mobile connection part, for each cluster of control rods, on an assembly head containing tanks of liquid neutron absorber, and injection circuits in injection channels placed between the fuel rods.

The present invention is a control rod guide tube cleaning apparatus in a nuclear reactor which comprises a rod member, one end side portion of which has the thickness such that the end side portion can pass through an inside of a connecting portion between a housing of a control rod drive mechanism and a control rod guide tube, a nozzle for sucking water, mounted on the rod member on the one end side so that the nozzle can go in and out of the rod member, a means for rotating the rod member in a horizontal direction, and a water passage for leading water sucked in the nozzle to an outside of the housing along the rod member. The rod member is inserted into the control rod guide tube through the inside of the housing. Then, the nozzle is rotated downward so that a suction port of the nozzle faces adjacently to the bottom inside the control rod guide tube. The nozzle is rotated in the horizontal direction by rotating the rod member in the horizontal direction. At the same time, dusts on the bottom inside the control rod guide tube is sucked by the nozzle together with water inside the control rod guide tube to discharge them out of the housing.

A control rod driving apparatus adapted to drive a control rod assembly for a nuclear reactor is disposed in a housing mounted to a reactor pressure vessel of the nuclear reactor and includes a guide tube disposed in the housing, a connection pipe disposed inside the guide tube coaxially therewith and having one end to which a control rod assembly is connected, a ball spindle disposed inside the connection pipe and supported thereby so as to be rotatable by a ball nut assembly engaged with the ball spindle so as to be axially movable along the ball spindle, the ball nut assembly supporting another end of the connection pipe, a hydraulic drive operatively connected to the ball spindle to rotate the ball spindle, and a transmission mechanism operatively connected to the drive for transmitting a power of the drive to the ball spindle. When the hydraulic drive is driven, the ball spindle is rotated, the ball nut assembly engaged with the ball spindle is axially rotated, and the connection pipe supported by the ball nut assembly is then driven vertically to thereby drive the control rod assembly for inserting or withdrawing the control rod assembly into or from a reactor core. The reactor is a boiling water reactor.

A fluid coupling includes first and second connectable fittings. Each of the fittings include a body, an annular seat, and a fluid channel extending through the body and seat thereof. The first fitting includes a pair of latch bosses, and the second fitting includes a pair of latch arms, with the second fitting being rotatable relative to the first fitting to a latched position wherein the latch arms engage the latch bosses for maintaining the first seat adjacent to the second seat for allowing fluid to flow between the first and second channels. The fittings are also rotatable to a disengaged position wherein the latch arms and pins are disengaged to allow the first and second seats to be separated.

A high speed air cylinder in which the longitudinal movement of the piston within the air cylinder tube is controlled by pressurizing the air cylinder tube on the accelerating side of the piston and releasing pressure at a controlled rate on the decelerating side of the piston. The invention also includes a method for determining the pressure required on both the accelerating and decelerating sides of the piston to move the piston with a given load through a predetermined distance at the desired velocity, bringing the piston to rest safely without piston bounce at the end of its complete stroke.

A hydraulic lock for latching a displacer rod drive mechanism in an up position. A piston having a truncated cone-shaped valve element is formed at an end of the drive rod. A complementary truncated cone-shaped valve seat is formed in the cap of the reactor housing. When the drive rod is activated to the up position, the valve element seats against the valve seat creating a seal and a pressure boundary. The piston is provided with piston rings. The pressure differential acting across the piston is transferred to the area of contact between the valve element and valve seat thus maintaining the drive rod in the up position and preventing leakage flow from around the piston rings. A hydraulic control system for operating the hydraulic latch is also disclosed.

A hydraulic control rod drive for a water-cooled nuclear reactor includes a control valve assembly outside the reactor pressure vessel for influencing the fluid quantity on the pressure side of a fluid pump assembly for adjusting control rods in raising and lowering directions and to maintain a control rod position. A control valve assembly includes the following control branches for actuating each of the control rods: a holding branch connected between a pressure line and a pressure side of a piston/cylinder system, a first fluid throttle and a bypass fluid throttle upstream thereof relative to a drop of the first fluid throttle for discharging into a drain, the first fluid throttle and the bypass fluid throttle having throttle cross sections allowing a fluid flow therethrough sufficient to hold a given control rod in a given position with the fluid pump assembly running; a raising branch connected to the holding branch upstream and downstream of the first fluid throttle, and a series circuit having a raising valve assembly and a second fluid throttle; and a lowering branch connected to the holding branch downstream of the first fluid throttle relative to the drop of the first fluid throttle and discharging into a cooling water reservoir, and a series circuit of a lowering valve and a third fluid throttle. A device is also provided for automatically opening the lowering valve in the lowering branch if the raising valve in the raising branch sticks in an open position.
