    摘要: One embodiment of the present invention provides an optical link coupling two nodes in an optical transport network. The optical link includes a fiber span, which includes a first optical fiber, a second optical fiber, and a splitter. The input of the splitter is coupled to an input of the fiber span, and first and second outputs of the splitter are coupled, respectively, to the first and second optical fibers. The optical link further includes a first amplifier coupled to the first optical fiber, a second amplifier coupled to the second optical fiber, and an optical switch. Two inputs of the optical switch are coupled to outputs of the first and second amplifiers, respectively; and an output of the optical switch is coupled to an input of a third amplifier.

    摘要: A relay station has an optical switch that switches a reception path of an optical signal. The relay station generates a subsignal that has a wavelength different from the wavelength of a data signal corresponding to a signal to be transmitted and transmits an optical signal obtained by multiplexing the generated subsignal and the data signal. In this state, when the data signal is not included in the received optical signal, the relay station determines whether the subsignal is included in the optical signal. When it is determined that the subsignal is included, the relay station maintains a connection path of the optical switch without switching the connection path.

    摘要: Disclosed is an inter-card channel protection method in a wave-length division multiplexing system. At the transmitting end, signals from the client side are divided via a coupler into two paths which are delivered to two cards, respectively. The two paths of signal transmitted by the two cards are sent via different routes to the receiving end. At the receiving end, the two paths of signal enter two cards, respectively, and the two cards communicate with each other directly. The standby card submits the signal quality detected by a detecting device to the primary card. The switching control unit on the primary card issues the commands of switching on/off the client-side lasers to the standby card in accordance with a decision made. One of the client-side lasers on the primary card and standby card is switched on while the other is switched off. The merits of this method include: protection can be realized with failures of card or essential chips thereon; protection switching can still be conducted with failures of system control unit; and, direct transfer of switching conditions and switching commands between the two cards is faster than communications with a system control unit via mailbox respectively.

    摘要: In an optical network a 1+1 bidirectional protection system is presented. Each node across a link has photodiodes to monitor the power of signals received by the node on receiving working and protection optical fibers and also optical switches connected to transmission working and protection optical fibers to modulate signals to its counterpart node across the link. When a node detects a fault in the receiving working optical fiber, not only does the node switch to the receiving protection optical fiber, but it also switches to the transmission protection optical fiber to signal the fault to the node across the link. The optical switches on transmission working and protection optical fibers allow the two nodes across the link to signal each other at a protocol-less or primary protocol level for the link to revert back to its initial state.
