    摘要: Systems, methods, and apparatus for providing broadband communication are described. A service gateway may be situated outside of one or more households. The service gateway may include a termination component and a broadband modem. The termination component may be configured to connect to a source of a broadband data signal and receive the signal from the source. The broadband modem may be configured to receive the signal from the termination component and output at least a portion of the signal for receipt by a remote device situated within a household. Additionally, the service gateway may optionally include a router in communication with the broadband modem. The router may be configured to function as an intermediary between the modem and the remote device.

    摘要: The invention relates to an interconnecting node for use in interconnecting a passive optical network (PON) and a copper wire xDSL access network, wherein said interconnecting node comprises an optical network unit (ONU) arranged to be connected to an optical line termination (OLT) over the PON network; and at least one xDSL access device connectable to at least one user end xDSL equipment over the copper wire xDSL access network. The interconnecting node is characterized in thatit further comprises a clocking interconnect between the ONU unit and the at least one xDSL access device arranged to distribute a clock signal obtained from optical network transmissions received in the ONU unit over the PON network to an timing reference input of the at least one xDSL access device. The invention also relates to a further interconnecting node, methods for use in interconnecting nodes, a central office optical network apparatus and an access network.

    摘要: A method and system provides quality of service in a DSL network interfaced with the Internet. A connection engine determines whether a connection from an internet endpoint has an associated IP layer 3 quality of service or ATM layer 2 quality of service and provides the internet network quality of service parameters to a mapping engine. The mapping engine references a quality of service map to associate the layer 3 or layer 2 quality of service with a DSL layer 1 quality of service. The mapping engine provides the DSL quality of service parameters to the DSL network which establishes the DSL connection between a DSL endpoint and the internet endpoint with the appropriate quality of service. To provision services to a DSL network, the quality of service map is updated to associate quality of service parameters for the service, including its association with other network quality of service parameters.

    摘要: A time division duplex (TDD) amplifier switches direction of amplification to amplify signals in both directions as needed for the direction of signal flow in the network. The TDD amplifier switching is controlled by monitoring the time slot information of the communication channel to determine the schedule of transmissions in each direction. The amplifier direction is switched during the inter-frame gaps of the TDD data transmissions. The TDD amplifier can be used for WAN access to homes and in a LAN operating within a home.

    摘要: A method of providing information regarding an Ethernet frame, within the Ethernet preamble of the Ethernet frame, comprises inserting into the Ethernet preamble an inter-line-card header that includes a start control character, a version number, a parity bit, a source port, a destination port, and a forwarding domain entry; and preserving said inter-line-card header, inside of said Ethernet preamble, in a Media Access Control (MAC) sub-layer in said Ethernet frame. The method may include a step of selecting the decoding format for the inter-line-card header corresponding to the version number and/or forwarding other Ethernet frames according to additional forwarding information provided by the forwarding domain entry. The inter-line-card header may be preserved in the MAC sub-layer by keeping the Ethernet preamble at the beginning of an Ethernet frame received over an Ethernet backplane, and passing the combined preamble and associated Ethernet frame to an inter-line-card header processing module.

    摘要: A method of routing traffic to customer premises devices (CPDs), each CPD being reachable via a dedicated customer interface (DCI) from among a plurality of DCIs grouped into clusters included in respective outside plant units (OPUs). Packets destined for the CPDs are received. A destination DCI and a destination OPU for each packet is determined. The destination DCI for a particular packet destined for a particular CPD is determined by identifying the DCI via which the particular CPD is reachable. The destination OPU for the particular packet is determined by identifying the OPU that includes the destination DCI. For each particular OPU that is the destination OPU for one or more packets, the packets are buffered and transmitted via an interface for the particular OPU. For each particular DCI that is the destination DCI for one or more packets, tagging each packet with an indication of the particular DCI.

    摘要: A system for provisioning virtual circuit information in packet has a plurality of access modules that are inserted into slots of a chassis at a network facility. Each access module is provisioned with sets of Ethernet virtual circuit (EVC) attribute data in order to provide the access module with sufficient information to handle data packets carried by EVCs serviced by the access module. Rather than manually provisioning each access module with EVC attribute data, the sets of attribute data are stored at a central location. Each access module has logic that is configured to automatically retrieve, from the central location, sets of attribute data associated with the EVCs to be serviced by the access module. The logic then automatically provisions the access module to handle data packets carried by such EVCs.
