The receiving device thereby reads or interprets control signals derived from the programming guide data provided via the digital delivery network so as to control subsequent recording (or other storage) of the video programs or other video content assets associated with the media guidance application data.

    摘要: In a known copy protection process for preventing recording of video signals, pseudo sync and AGC pulses are present on predetermined lines within the blanking intervals of the video signal so that any subsequent video tape recording of the video signal shows a picture of very low entertainment quality. This copy protection process is defeated first by determining the location of the video lines containing the copy protection using the color burst signal or chroma in the horizontal blanking interval to determine on-line detection. Then some or all of the lines including copy protection signals are modified so as to render the overall video signal recordable. The modification is accomplished in a number of ways, including gain shifting portions of the video signal, level shifting portions of the video signal, bandwidth limiting certain portions of the video signal or replacing certain portions of the video signal with other video elements.

    摘要: Video signals in today's environment exist in both the analog domain and the digital domain. In many instances it may be desirable to delete or reduce the effectiveness of a video signal containing analog copy protection signals while the signals are in the digital domain. The invention uses digital techniques for defeating the effects of the analog copy protected signal while the signal is in the digital domain. The types of copy protection signals includes pseudo sync pulses and AGC pulses. Additionally digital techniques may be used for reducing or eliminating the affects of a chroma copy protection process. A digital video copy protection eliminator allows removal of substantially all pseudo sync pulses and/or AGC pulses in the digital domain. The location of pseudo syncs and/or AGC pulses are determined, while the signal is in the digital domain. These known pixel locations of all or some of the pseudo syncs and/or AGC pulses are used to digitally modify the signal so as to effectively remove the pseudo sync pulses and/or AGC pulses. Digital methods can also be applied to effectively eliminate or correct the chroma (burst phase modulation) protection process and or enhanced video copy protection signals in the digital domain.

    摘要: In order to defeat pirate descramblers that detect the occurrence of a vertical blanking interval from a gap in timing data provided on the sound carrier of a scrambled television signal, diversionary pulse information is inserted into the sound carrier during the vertical blanking interval. A pirate descrambler that looks for a gap in data transmitted on the sound carrier will then detect a "false" second gap, and incorrectly phase lock its horizontal oscillator to random video instead of to horizontal timing information that is recoverable during the vertical blanking interval.

    摘要: An encrypted video distribution system includes a signal originating station which distributes television signals in a format unrecoverable by a standard television receiver. In particular, the normally occurring vertical and horizontal synchronizing pulses are deleted and, optionally also, video information is selectively inverted about a voltage reference potential intermediate the black and white levels. To permit synchronization restoration, a keying pulse is transmitted once each video field, and a synchronizing digital code burst transmitted once each frame--all at a fixed, predetermined intra-frame timed relationship. At each authorized subscriber location, the keying pulse and digital code burst are employed to lock a receiver frame clock which derivatively gives rise to all requisite reception-permitting synchronizing pulses. The transmitted information also contains information sufficient to restore the inverted video program content.
