A centering valve box adapter is provided for supporting a bonnet over a valve box to maintain vertical access to the valve box nut. A plurality of retainers can be affixed to the valve box using the bolts on the valve box. Each retainer has a lip and a keeper. Each keeper has a vertical hole. A plurality of brackets can also be provided. Each bracket can have an interface, an extension and a riser. The interface can be removably received within the hole of the keeper. The plurality of retainers and respective brackets form an assembly that defines a perimeter. A bonnet can be vertically supported on the respective extensions of the brackets. The bonnet is self centering and is laterally bound by the perimeter defined by the risers. The retainers and brackets can be made of stainless steel.

Apparatus and methods are provided for the extension of access conduits to access underground valves and the like. A valve can extension comprising a tubular member having an extension riser portion at one end and an inwardly tapered portion at the other end. The extension riser portion has a substantially constant inner and outer diameter defining a substantially uniform wall thickness. The inwardly tapered portion is adapted to be inserted into and frictionally engage a valve can bell housing. The valve can extension and valve can bell housing assembly form a conduit from grade level to the bell portion having a substantially uniform inner and outer diameter. A simple friction fit joining method is provided to negate the need for complex mechanical coupling devices. The valve can extension further provides the ability to change the elevation of the valve can without the necessity of major excavation and back-filling to gain access to and rebury the coupling between the valve can extension and the bell housing.

An arrangement intended for a stop valve (1) comprises a tubular member (9). The stop valve (1) is located in the ground (2) and has a valve housing (11) and a valve bonnet (12) fixed thereto with the aid of a fixing means (14), said valve bonnet having a valve spindle (15) supporting a movable stop means (16), such as a slide. The tubular member (9) extends from the valve (1) up to ground level to enable operation of the valve spindle (15). A collar means (10′) is tightly connected with and supported by the valve housing (11). The collar means (10′) has a collar portion (32) which surrounds the valve bonnet (12) and the fixing means (14) and is tightly connected with the lower end of the tubular member (9), the diameter of the tubular member (9) essentially corresponding to the diameter of the collar portion (32). Moreover, the arrangement comprises a pipe access means (12′), which instead of the valve bonnet (12) from ground level is tightly mountable on said valve housing (11).
