The present invention relates to a low-vibration tool holder (1) with a tool holder base body (2, 3, 4, 6) and a tensioning arrangement (5) which provides axial tensioning of the tool holder base body (2, 3, 4, 6) and which is simultaneously tensioned in a radially flexible way with respect to the tool holder base body (2, 3, 4, 6). This tool holder (1) is less susceptible to vibration than previously known tool holders, which ensures better true running even during operation and in particular when heat-induced expansion of materials occurs, since the clamping arrangement (5) which is integrated in the tool holder (1) is continuously centered with respect to the tool holder base body (2, 3, 4, 6). Furthermore, such a tool holder (1), in particular within a modular design, can be adapted very flexibly to different types of tools and workpiece machining processes.

The apparatus uses a female guiding member to move along the surface of a protruding male member on the end of the collet. The female guiding member is positioned such that when mated with the male protrusion on the collet, the disk opening is in axial alignment with the collet. The apparatus grips the disk between two posts and a compliant spool. The disk, when held is allowed to move in directions parallel to the plane of the disk.

The lock-up fingers are individually biased radially outward into engagement with a peripheral wall of a workpiece to initially support the workpiece in a predetermined position irrespective of the eccentricity of the peripheral wall with respect to other portions of the workpiece which are first located concentrically with the chuck axis. An inflatable bladder flexes the remaining gripping fingers into gripping engagement with the peripheral wall to further radially support the wall in preparation for machining, without disturbing the prepositioning of the workpiece.

The core structure of a molding apparatus for making a molded article is disclosed. The cylindrical core which forms a plurality of main core members separated by a plurality of wide slits and a plurality of complementary core members which are inserted and fastened in the slits can be independently manufactured and thereafter assembled. Accordingly, the main core members, without the complementary core plate members being attached, provide sufficiently wide machining or grinding clearance to allow speedy machining or grinding on the side faces of the main core members. The complementary core members, as well, may be machined and ground quite readily and accurately. The cylindrical core members and the complementry core members can be produced in high precision so that the assembling of the members to form a cylindrical core structure also can be carried out precisely or accurately and such core structure can be installed in the molding apparatus precisely. Accordingly, the manufacture of highly precise molded articles becomes possible.

A workpiece-holding plug has six sector-shaped segments that expand outwardly in a radial direction when in use and in contact with a lathe center. The segments have tapered outer wall portions which assume a precise cylindrical shape when the plug is expanded so that the central axis of the lathe center is maintained in precise concentric relationship to the central axis of the workpiece. The plug is of a particular construction which ensures that each of the segments shifts radially outwardly an equal distance, and yet has sufficient resiliency for self-contraction when the work operation is completed so that the plug may be readily removed from the workpiece. The plug has particular utility for holding a press roller on a lathe during reconditioning of the outer rubber surface of the roller.
