Abstract:
A method of applying liquid anhydrous ammonia to soil is disclosed as including the step of pressurizing anhydrous ammonia received from a source. The pressurized anhydrous ammonia is conducted to a plurality of terminal outlets, wherein each of the outlets is configured to maintain a back pressure and thereby the liquid state of the anhydrous ammonia. The anhydrous ammonia is discharged from the plurality of terminal outlets to thereby contact the soil.
Abstract:
The apparatus is propelled or towed in a longitudinal direction over a field and the apparatus components engage the field surface to inject fluid beneath the field surface. Generally, the apparatus is a frame and at least one series of fluid distribution discs rotationally coupled at end portions of an arm assemblies pivotally suspended from the frame. The fluid distribution discs include a plurality of fluid distribution channels that radiate from the fluid distribution disc origin to conically shaped tines connected at the perimeter of the fluid distribution disc. The fluid distribution channels are aligned with similar channels within a bushing securable to the fluid distribution disc radial portion. A stationary plate or disc valve has a disc valve fluid channel in a disc valve radial surface, which is in contact with the rotating bushing radial surface resulting in a periodic alignment between the disc valve fluid channel and each of the bushing channels. Fluid is pumped to a fluid port in a hub having a fluid port in fluid communication with the disc valve fluid channel. As the tines of the fluid distribution disc penetrate the field surface, fluid is channeled through the disc valve into the fluid distribution disc channels and the tines.
Abstract:
A fertilizer knife for use in applying anhydrous ammonia comprising a leading edge having a flat face. A projecting shoe attached to the leading edge that is flat to minimize packing of soil against furrow sidewalls. A fertilizer delivery tube disposed on a back edge of the knife having a bend portion adjacent the bottom surface of the projecting shoe leading to a fertilizer release hole under the bottom surface of the knife.
Abstract:
A turf care system and method uses simultaneously fired pulses of high-pressure liquid jets of the mixture shot toward the ground. The liquid is mixed with dry grass seed shortly before being delivered to a high-pressure liquid/seed pumping system, which uses an accumulator and sequencing valve to produce at regular repetitive intervals pulses of the liquid/seed mixture under high pressure. The pulses are delivered to an elongated hydraulic manifold having multiple nozzles pointed downwardly, which are spaced from one another and the ground by predetermined distances. The momentum of the high-pressure jet of liquid/seed mixture issuing from each nozzle cuts through overlying vegetation to deposit the seeds into the crown of the soil at predetermined desired depth. Spray patterns are determined by nozzle orifice shape, and are preferably selected to provide a shallow knife slit-like opening or trench in the crown of the turf.
Abstract:
A method for the subsurface application of fertilizers, biologicals, fumigants, non-fumigant pesticides or other chemicals to soil with reduced application rates. Discrete amounts of the materials are injected into the soil at numerous sites along a path during a pass through the soil. At the injection sites, the materials form diffusion patterns which may touch or overlapping with diffusion patterns of adjacent soil injections. The application of materials to soil in this manner maintains optimum efficacy with the use of the least amount of materials necessary per acre of soil.
Abstract:
A tractor that can pull a wide variety of equipment such as that for tilling, seeding and fertilizing of field crops. The equipment can also include reservoirs for containing large quantities of seeds and fertilizers such as liquid manure. As tilling and fertilizing progresses these materials as dispensed changing the weight distribution on the tractor. The change can be compensated for during use by sensing weight and adjusting the position of the machine connecting structure in response thereto, such as a fifth wheel of the tractor, in real-time, to generally equalize weight distribution.
Abstract:
A liquid manure applicator comprises a frame having support wheels mounted to a carriage movable relative to the frame and one or more transversely extending shafts of tines positioned rearward of the support wheels. Rearward of the tines are distributed one or more sprays. The frame is mounted to the vehicle through vertically reciprocating parallelogram linkage which permits the frame to move vertically while maintaining the orientation of the frame and the ground. The supporting wheels are pivoted so as to passively steer as the frame is moved laterally. The elevation of the tine assemblies and sprays relative to the ground is adjusted through manipulation of the height of the supporting wheels. A minimal number of large bore clog resistant sprays is used, supplied from a distributor.
Abstract:
Apparatus for dispensing a liquid fluid into a soil, includes a stationary feed assembly connected to a vehicle and mounted on an axle, and a discharge assembly configured for rotation about the axle relative to the feed assembly. The discharge assembly includes a plurality of tubes having tips for sequential penetration of the soil and dispensing of liquid fluid into a soil, wherein the feed assembly has a supply zone for liquid fluid, with the supply zone located in an area outside the axle.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is provided for rapidly treating the surface and subsurface of soil by irradiation with microwave energy to preclude germination of existing seeds and to kill weeds prior to sowing new seed and to kill insects. A microwave weed seed sterilizer is powered by a generator set to produce microwave energy to a predetermined depth in the soil. The preferred embodiment of the microwave weed seed sterilizer is portable and operatively attached to a self-propelled farm machine. The self-propelled farm machine moves along a field while the portable microwave weed seed sterilizer emits microwave energy into the soil.
Abstract:
An all wheel steer variable load carrying tractor vehicle which is particularly suited for towing crop input implements, the front section of which comprises a cab and engine the back section of which comprises several storage containers for carrying bulk crop inputs. The storage containers are releasably attached to the vehicle and can be changed based on the type of crop inputs applied and any implements towed by the vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with low impact ground engaging means, such as tracks to increase maneuverability. The vehicle may also be equipped with a combination of high flotation tires or tracks to minimize soil compaction. A delivery system in combination with a control system coordinates the movement of the crop inputs from the vehicle to places located off the vehicle.
