Abstract: Disclosed is a heated air popcorn popper which provides a heating base assembly and popping pitcher having an interior popping volume which is detachable from the base assembly for introduction of popcorn kernels. The base assembly providing heated air to the popping pitcher causing unpopped kernels to pop and form popped popcorn. The detachable popping pitcher includes a pitcher lifting handle such that the popping pitcher can be lifted away from the heating base assembly to permit any remaining unpopped or popped kernels to be emptied from the detachable popping pitcher for cleaning.

Abstract: A portable popcorn machine including a housing assembly, cooking assembly, electrical assembly, and popcorn assembly is disclosed. These assemblies in conjunction with one another provide a portable solution to cooking popcorn. Portable popcorn machine is a rectangular apparatus that includes an upper and lower portion. The upper portion includes a hinged door that gives a user access to the cooking cavity. Uncooked kernels are placed within this cavity and cooked via a heating system. The lower portion includes two vertically stacked drawers for the storage of uncooked kernels, popcorn serving bags, and condiments. Adjacent to the drawers in the lower portion, is a digital display for cooking time readout as well as a digital keypad for user cook time input. When the popcorn machine is ready to be moved the back panel of the machine includes two shoulder straps for easy carriage.

Abstract: A grain-popping machine and associated pod-based popping method is disclosed. The grain-popping is configured to receive a pod. Each pod includes a plurality of cells, with each cell preferably containing a single grain kernel or seed, flavoring, and a cooking medium such as oil or shortening. In a preferred embodiment, the pod is loaded into the grain-popping machine through a slot so that it is held in position adjacent to a heating element. The heating element is activated to begin a popping sequence. When each grain kernel or seed in the pod reaches popping temperature, it absorbs the flavoring in its cell and ejects through the bottom of the pod, which can be weakened to ease ejection, into a bowl positioned in a receiving area of the grain-popping machine. The pod is then removed and disposed of.

Abstract: A heated air popcorn popper and related methods of popping popcorn in which unpopped kernels are retained in a heating zone and are prevented from being expelled before they have been exposed to a heated air stream for sufficient time to result in popping of the kernels. The popcorn popper can have a popping portion including a retention mechanism capable of moving in response to physical contact with popped kernels that experience a dramatic volumetric increase in size following popping. As the number of popped kernels within the popping portion increases, the level of the popped kernels rises until they physically contact the retention mechanism, whereby the retention mechanism is forced to transition from a covering disposition to an open disposition in which popped kernels are allowed to exit the heating zone.

Abstract: Popcorn machines having process chambers of increasing volume, and associated systems and methods of operation are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a popcorn machine includes a tube, a heating element positioned to heat the tube, and an auger positioned at least partially within the tube. The auger can include a central portion extending along a longitudinal axis from a first end to a second end. The central portion decreases in diameter from the first end to the second end, and the central portion and the tube at least partially define an annular popping chamber that increases in volume from the first end toward the second end. A flight extends around the central portion in a helical pattern between the central portion and an inner wall of the tube. In operation, the auger rotates about the longitudinal axis to move ingredients through the heated tube via the flight.

Abstract: A base assembly integrated into an appliance including a lower frame and an upper operating component. A plurality of inter-assembleable and planar shaped members include each of a bottom and upwardly supported and interconnected front, back and sides, these collectively defining an enclosure having an upper surface adapted to support the operating component and a lower surface adapted to secure upon the lower frame. Mounting hardware including at least a plurality of threaded fasteners secures the bottom to locations along the front and back. Pluralities of vertically spaced tabs and opposing vertically spaced slots are configured along each of opposite edges of the sides and along each of first and second pairs of opposite edge extending brackets secured to each of the front and back and which overlap the side edges. The planar shaped members and mounting hardware are adapted to being shipped in a first flat-packed arrangement and subsequently assembled on site in a second use arrangement.
