摘要： A siderail assembly for a hospital bed is provided. In one embodiment the bed is a chair bed having a first deck section, a second deck section and a third deck section. The siderails are provided adjacent the third deck section. The siderails remains stationary relative to the third deck section during movement of the third deck section from a generally horizontal to a substantially vertical position. The siderails are configured to be gripped by a patient while the patient is entering and exiting the chair bed.

摘要： By providing position control means cooperatively associated with a support pad with said control means being constructed for arcuately moving the support pad in response to activation by the user, with the position control means and pad peripherally surrounded by a cover, a unique, portable, self-contained, unitary, movably adjustable support assembly is attained whereby individuals are able to position the support pad in any desired location or on any surface while also being able to automatically raise and/or lower the support pad to any position for comfort and support. In the preferred embodiment, the movably adjustable support assembly is constructed with expandable shroud means integrally connected with the cover in association with the position control means for expanding in response to the arcuate movement of the position control means while being automatically retracted into a folded configuration when the control means are returned to its original position. In addition, the present invention incorporates a single air flow control assembly which is capable of directly controlling two separate and independent movably adjustable support assemblies, each of which employ separate control means. In this way, individuals with queen or king sized beds are able to employ two separate and independent movably adjustable support assemblies on the single bed for separate and independent control, while employing a single air flow control assembly.

摘要： A free-engaging drive unit is provided for adjustable beds and the like of the type having a mattress support frame or bedspring supported by two detachable end panels. A crank is mounted on one of the end panels, preferably at the foot of the bed, and is positioned at a conveniently accessible height and location. The adjustable bed has at least one controller shaft, which is rotated to adjust an associated portion of the bed. The free-engaging drive unit includes a drive coupling mounted on the foot end panel and a mating driven coupling mounted on an adjacent portion of the bedspring. When the foot end panel is connected with the bedspring, the drive and driven couplings automatically mesh to operatively connect the crank with the controller shaft, and thereby effect bed adjustment.

摘要： Apparatus for altering the contour of a mattress on a bed comprises a lifting and lowering device located, in use, at one end of the bed and carrying an attachment for generally vertical movement. A flexible elongated carrier for a mattress has one end hinged to the attachment, and is movable between a first contour, where the attachment is in a lower position and the carrier is disposed wholly in a generally horizontal plane, and a second contour where the attachment is in an upper position, the end of the carrier hinged to the attachment is spaced above the aformentioned horizontal plane and the opposite end of the carrier, together with an adjacent, substantial portion of the carrier, is disposed in said generally horizontal plane. Friction-reducing means facilitates movement of the carrier in the horizontal plane.

摘要： A ledge bed apparatus for use with a patient care bed having a vertically movable bed frame. The apparatus includes a mattress support member adapted to be positioned on the bed frame and a leg assembly. The leg assembly includes an upper leg portion depending from the mattress support member and a lower leg portion pivotally attached to the upper leg portion which is pivotable into substantially vertical alignment therewith. The leg assembly also includes means for locking the upper and lower leg portions in alignment when the lower leg portion is first pivoted into alignment with the upper leg portion and the leg assembly is subsequently vertically loaded by lowering the bed frame so that the lower leg portion engages a load bearing surface and a portion of the mattress support member is supported by the leg assembly in a position elevated with respect to the bed frame, thereby forming a ledge. In addition, the leg assembly includes automatic means for releasing the locking means and pivoting the lower leg portion at an angle with respect to the upper leg portion when the vertical loading is removed by raising the mattress support member so that the lower leg portion is disengaged from the load bearing surface, thereby removing the ledge. In this manner, accidental formation of a ledge when the bed is inadvertently lowered is prevented.

摘要： A slatted bed system comprising an articulating frame, a power unit, concave slats, a sculptured mattress and free standing support means. The articulating frame is in four sections to facilitate the independent raising of the head end and the portion under an individual's knee by two independently operable linear actuators. The slats are filament wound fiberglass epoxy of a downwardly concave shape and are sized in thickness and width to provide a predetermined spring rate. The number of slats, slat spacing and spring rate of each slat may be tailored for the body weight distribution of the individual for whom the bed is designed, as may the cross-sectional dimensions of the slats. The mattress is molded from high resiliency foam and is sculptured at the frame pivot points. While the mattress spans the slats, the feel, comfort and body support are provided by the slat system. A wooden enclosure provides a finished look and optional additional support for the central power unit, or two independent power units if incorporated, e.g., in a king size bed.

摘要： An adjustable bed is particularly adapted for the care of morbidly obese patients and comprises a ground engaging frame with a mattress support including a head section, a center section and a foot section which are hingedly interconnected and have power devices which selectively drive lift arms to raise and lower the head and foot sections relative to the center section. To assist entry and exit of a patient onto and off of the bed, a foldable step arrangement is provided which is connected to the foot section and automatically unfolds as the foot section is tilted downward to form a step and folds compactly as the foot section is raised to a horizontal position.
