In particular, it relates to anhydrous cosmetic and dermatological compositions, with the capacity for self-warming or self-heating upon application. The self-warming or self-heating cosmetic compositions of the present invention comprise: (i) from about 0.1 to about 99% by weight of an anhydrous skin care preparation; and (ii) from about 0.01 to about 99% by weight of a heating agent selected from polyvinyl amine, polyalkyleneamine or polyalkyleneimine.

I have discovered cosmetic cold-wax hair removal (depilatory) compositions suitable for site-specific face or body applications with the following attributes: (1) A pre-heating or microwave step is not necessary, (2) Complete hair removal is achieved in a single application on a specific site or area, (3), No (or minimal) skin irritation is experienced, (4) Bond to hair preferentially, and not to skin, (5) Provide lubricity and emolliency to skin, (6) Can be applied either directly on the skin or, preferably, on a piece of precut fabric, plastic or paper, which is then applied to specific site where hair removal is desired. Alternatively, dispensing applicators can also be used that can be filled for delivery at the specific site where depilation is desired. (7) Require minimal clean-up with water or common make-up removal compositions, and (9) Additional skin and hair beneficial ingredients, such as hair growth retardants, anti-irritants, topical pain relief agents, antioxidants, skin soothing agents, skin cooling agents, emollients, moisturizers, topical anesthetics, colorants, botanical extracts, fragrances, and such can be included.

The present invention is directed to shaving compositions which comprise one or more water soluble polymers to increase lubricity and enhance shaving performance. The polymers employed in the shaving compositions provide the composition with a stress ratio (i.e., the ratio of normal stress to shear stress) in excess of 3.0 when measured at a shear rate of 800 secnull1. A preferred combination of polymers includes polyethylene oxide (mol. Wt.null1 million) and natural or synthetic polysaccharide gum. The present invention is also directed to an improved shaving method in which such compositions are applied to an area of skin, then said area is shaved. In another aspect, the present invention embraces shaving compositions comprising water, a cleansing or conditioning agent for hair or skin, polyethylene oxide (mol. Wt.null1 million) and natural or synthetic polysacchride gum.

A device and method is disclosed for permanent or semi-permanent removal of hair through the activation of microparticles introduced into hair follicles. Microparticles are incorporated into a composition that is topically applied to the skin. These microparticles containing or consisting of chromophores or chemically activated molecules are of a variety of shapes and sizes. Microparticles are within a size range of 1 micron to 70 microns, and preferably between 10 and 50 microns. Microparticles of this size and variety of shapes enter hair follicles on all areas of the skin without entering other areas of the skin, such as the stratum corneum or sweat gland channels. Treatment of the skin with electromagnetic radiation, ultrasonic radiation or chemical means activates the chromophore or chemically activated compounds, thus destroying the hair follicle without damaging other areas of the skin. In another embodiment, microparticles further contain nanoparticles released further into the hair follicle by use of a solvent or other method, allowing chromophores or chemically activated molecules to penetrate deeper into the follicle and avoid structures such as the sebaceous gland.
