Abstract:
A process for shaping a high strength container, particularly an aerosol container and a container obtained through such process. Generally, aerosol containers made of aluminum or tin are obtained by conventional embedding processes from sheet disks and have cylindrical bodies with upper tapering finishing at a curl for fixing a valve cover and are closed by convex and profiled cross section bottoms, for forming a support region for upstanding the container. The bottom of such containers is obtained before tapering by means of a blow or front shock once the cylindrical body having planar circular base is shaped, this impact causing undesirable stresses on the body side wall and material accumulation at the annular region joining with this wall since the bottom thickness is not uniform. The invention proposes a process for shaping this kind of containers by extrusion thus saving material as a consequence of imparting the container with thin walls due to a substantial change in the production concept, giving concave shape to the base for avoiding undesirable stresses on side wall during further production steps and saving material at the joints with the side wall. The invention also relates to a particular shape container, having no material accumulation at the concave bottom, which may be used in different positions, horizontal or vertical aided by plastic or metal accessories.

Preferably, the height of roughness of the micro-rough layer is 0.01 to 0.06 mm, and the particulate coating process is performed using a silicofluoric chrome plating solution.
Abstract:
A bottle-shaped can manufacturing method for forming a shoulder portion having a slope and a diametrically small cylindrical neck portion integrally by further working a bottom side of a bottomed cylindrical can which is formed thinner at its trunk wall than at its bottom wall by drawing a metallic sheet having a thickness of 0.1 to 0.4 mm and by executing at least one thinning working of a bending/extending working and an ironing working. This method comprises: a first diametrically small cylindrical portion forming step of drawing the bottom and the trunk of the can into a diametrically smaller bottomed cylindrical shape than the trunk portion, and forming a bottom corner portion of the can into a curved face (or a curved shoulder face) having an arcuate longitudinal section, with the curved face of the bottom corner portion and the curved face being unwrinkled; a second diametrically small cylindrical portion forming step of re-drawing the bottomed cylindrical portion drawn into a diametrically smaller bottomed cylindrical shape at the previous step, with the bottom corner portion being unwrinkled by the surface of a tool; and a shoulder portion reforming step of pushing and extending the shoulder portion, which is formed by the first diametrically small cylindrical portion forming step and the second diametrically small cylindrical portion forming step into a smooth slope leading to the curved shoulder face on the trunk side, after the diameter of the bottomed cylindrical portion formed by executing the drawing working of the second diametrically small cylindrical portion forming step once or two or more times becomes substantially equal to a diameter of the neck portion.
Abstract:
A die set for press forming a metal sheet is provided, which comprises: at least a punch; and a die, wherein a punch-die clearance CL2 corresponding to a site to be formed immediately after the initial stage of press forming and a punch-die clearance CL1 corresponding to a site to be formed in the initial stage of press forming are set so as to satisfy the following expressions (1) and (2), respectively: 0.8nulltnullCL1null1.2nullt nullnull(1) CL2nullCL1nullt nullnull(2) where t denotes the thickness of the metal sheet to be formed. This configuration implements a die set for press forming capable of stably generating the reverse bending deformed portion due to overrun even when the die radius is large, minimizing the phenomenon such as wall warp, and enhancing the dimensional accuracy in press forming of a metal sheet, and a press forming method using the die set.
Abstract:
In a die cushion apparatus, a pressurizing force acting on a die cushion pad is applied to a first piston of a hydraulic cylinder unit by the operation of a slide, the first piston slides inside a first cylinder and pressure oil in a first hydraulic chamber is pressurized. The first hydraulic chamber is linked to a second hydraulic chamber of a booster cylinder unit via a second check valve, so that the pressure oil of the first hydraulic chamber is pushed out into the second hydraulic chamber. When the pressure of the first hydraulic chamber is applied to a second piston, the second piston slides inside the second cylinder and gas of a gas pressure chamber is compressed, whereby a surge pressure is reduced.
Abstract:
In a forming press, a blank is pressed formed into a press-formed workpiece by means of an upper die and a lower die, while a peripheral edge portion of the blank is clamped by means of a die and a blank holder insert of the forming press. Subsequently, a central portion of the press-formed workpiece is partially held by means of the upper die and the lower die so as to draw a peripheral portion of the press-formed workpiece away from the central portion thereof, thereby removing strain from the press-formed workpiece.
Abstract:
A drive for use in the manufacture of cans comprises a hydraulically powered guide pod to which a hold down assembly is attached. The guide pod slides along a guide rod which is fixed in the bodymaker. Forward and rear hydraulic chambers are defined between the pod and the guide rod by means of bushings and a seal. Passage of fluid through ports to and from the chambers causes the pod and hold down assembly to move forwards and backwards. The length of the stroke can be set by the distance between the ports. A rotary valve is used to control the timing of the drive and control flow of hydraulic fluid, which is typically obtained from the bodymaker coolant supply.

Abstract:
An improved double action bottom former for forming and shaping a metal can blank includes an integral cylinder housing having sidewalls forming first and second axial chambers, wherein the second axial chamber houses a piston suspension assembly for resilient positioning of a clamp ring and the first axial chamber houses a dome plug, which is resiliently positioned through use of a donut spring. In addition to serving means to bias the dome plug, the donut spring includes an interior cylindrical space defining a third axial chamber to increase the volumetric capacity of the second axial chamber for added capability in controlling the resilient positioning of the clamp ring to permit high cyclic operation of the bottom former for a sustained period of time without deleterious impact on other operating components comprising bodymaking equipment.
