    摘要: A broaching machine comprising a base and an endless broaching chain mounted on said base. A plurality of carriers are mounted at longitudinally spaced points on the chain for supporting a workpiece or broaching tools. A mounting fixture is positioned along a portion of the path of the carriers for supporting the workpiece or broaching tools. A slideway is provided along the path of the carriers adjacent the fixture and the slideway and carriers have complementary surfaces. Each of said surfaces of the slideway has longitudinally spaced cavities therein and capillary fluid passages associated therewith for supplying fluid to the cavities, the length and diameter of the capillaries and the size of the cavities being such that when a cavity is uncovered due to the absence of a carrier thereover, the fluid flows to the cavity freely and is at atmospheric pressure in the cavity. The length of each carrier is such that it covers a plurality of longitudinally spaced cavities as it is moved past the work station along said slideway and the length of the slideway is such that a plurality of cavities are uncovered at any moment of time during which a carrier is moved along said slideway. By supplying fluid to said cavities at least when a carrier is on said slideway each carrier is supported in stable, accurate frictionless relation to the slideway by fluid flow from said cavities between the complementary surfaces of said slideway and carrier.

    摘要: A portable, mechanically operated, key-duplicating machine that relies on a punch-cutting system that selectively punches out the particular notches or “bittings” of a key blank in response to the details of an adjacent and aligned master key. The duplicating machine comprises a frame having cutting end and an alignment end. The frame defines a longitudinal axis. A carriage is movable along the longitudinal axis and includes a transverse axis. A key clamping assembly has a first key clamp for holding the key blank and a second key clamp for holding the master key. The key assembly is selectively slidable along the transverse axis. A cutting assembly is located at the cutting end and includes a punch-type cutter pin that is adapted to selectively cut pre-shaped notches from the held key blank. The cutter pin includes a guide section that aligns with the notch-profile of the held master key. The key clamping assembly is rotatable about the transverse axis and with respect to the carriage so that the mounted keys face either the cutting end or the alignment end of the frame.

    摘要: A workpiece holder is mounted in front of a broach cutting tool moving along a vertical path. The holder is on a slide which is movable downwardly at an angle toward the path. The bottom of the slide has an abutment positioned to contact one of a plurality of faces of a rotatable stop means. The faces of the stop means are at different radial distances from the axis of rotation so that when the abutment is against one of the faces the holder is closer to the path than when the abutment is against another of the faces. Power means are connected to the slide an to the stop means to raise the slide after a downward cutting movement of the broach and, after an upward movement of the broach, to rotate the stop means to present a new face and to lower the slide against that new face.

    摘要: A method for shaping a blind slot in a workpiece includes using a standard computer numerical controlled machine center to radially step a single slot broaching tool into a precursor slot in the workpiece for a predetermined distance to form a slot with a blind end. After the slot with the blind end is formed, the method includes rotating at least one of the workpiece and the single slot broaching tool and radially stepping the single slot broaching tool into another precursor slot for another predetermined distance to form another slot with another blind end in the workpiece. The another predetermined distance is the same as the predetermined distance, or in the alternative, the another predetermined distance is different than the predetermined distance.
