The fixing screw retains the knife on the knife mounting area by means of a retaining force acting in the area between the contact surfaces inclined in a V-shape.

摘要： A method and apparatus for improved centering of a workpiece in a surfacing machine includes centering assembly having a plurality of individually movable biasing element sets, comprising an upper element and a lower element. Each element set is operatively connected to a closed circuit, double rod end hydraulic cylinder assembly which selectively and independently positions the element set responsive to the surface to the workpiece. The hydraulic cylinder assembly includes a valve. A pressure device is also operatively connected to each element set to provide a centering force. In use, as the upper or lower element of an element set is forced away from the centerline of the workpiece, the opposing element would automatically move the same amount when the valve is closed. When the valve is open, the upper and lower elements are free to move independently, allowing the centerline to be easily positioned as desired. The shoe assembly thus centers each and every workpiece independent of the amount of stock removal required.

摘要： A planing machine includes a support bed disposed movably along two pairs of vertical slots which are formed through two side walls of a machine body. A-bed-raising rod unit is operably associated with the bed in such a manner that rotation of the rod unit results in movement of the bed within the machine body. Two horizontally spaced apart and interconnected locking rods extend through the bed and the slots in the side walls, and have left and right threaded ends of opposite thread directions. The threaded ends of the locking rods are exposed from the slots in the side walls. Left and right nut units are disposed outside of the machine body, are mounted threadedly on the threaded ends of the locking rods in such a manner that rotation of the locking rods result in axial movement of said left and right nut units toward or away from each other.

First and second pairs of posts are fixed on the machine base at the first and second mounting sides, respectively. A cutter carriage is disposed above the machine base, and has opposite end portions mounted respectively, vertically and movably on the posts. A cutter unit has first and second shaft portions journalled to the first and second end portions of the cutter carriage. The second shaft portion is formed with a first engagement section. A cutter locking device includes a locking plate mounted movably on the second end portion of the cutter carriage, and having a vertical plate portion disposed adjacent to the second shaft portion, and a horizontal plate portion disposed below the second shaft portion and formed with a second engagement section. A biasing unit biases the locking plate to move upwardly on the second end portion of the cutter carriage to an upper position to engage the first and second engagement sections, thereby preventing rotation of the cutter unit relative to the carriage. The locking plate is movable forcibly to a lower position to disengage the first and second engagement sections from each other.
