The motor shaft has a through bore to introduce the variably controlled pressure to vary the resilient axial bias exerted on the cutter hub holder. In one embodiment, the driving connection between the shaft and cutter hub holder includes a quick connect and disconnect drive coupling to enable the blade holder to be quickly replaced. In another embodiment, the driving connection between the shaft and cutter hub holder includes an axially movable keyed connection and the piston rod includes two axially spaced pistons to increase the axial force exerted on the cutter hub holder through a resilient device.

The present invention relates to an improved die for use in textile processes involving nonwoven melt blown fabrics. In a melt blown process, molten polymer resins are injected into a melt blowing die and ejected or extruded from the die in the form of filaments. The present invention is directed to an improved die faceplate in combination with an extension plate that provides an extended flow path for an air jet to extrude a molten polymer filament of a reduced diameter in the melt blowing process.

An insulation plug is disclosed for mounting in and generally filling a central recess in the die face of an extrusion die in an underwater pelletizer. The insulation plug is in the form of a rigid circular plate that substantially fills the recess in the die face oriented in opposed relation to a cutter hub and cutter knives of the underwater pelletizer and is secured in place by a fastening bolt. The insulation plug may be made of solid one piece construction or hollow two piece construction, but is made of a material having low heat conductivity. The plug has raised and recessed portions to form bottom and side air gaps within the recess. The plug reduces the transfer of heat from the molten polymer being extruded through orifices in the die plate to water circulating through a water box of the underwater pelletizer. A rigid bushing or spacer may be used in existing extrusion die plates to maintain the bottom air gap against compressive forces generated by the fastening bolt when attaching the circular plate.

Plastic moldings reinforced with long fibers are made without the risk of forming loops in a continuous thread or roving fed to a cutting unit at the end of a mold filling operation or tearing thereof during renewed start-up for the next molding filling operation, even at a relatively high take-off speed of the continuous thread. This is achieved by keeping the continuous thread permanently under tension pneumatically against the conveying direction. The device useful for carrying out this process is equipped with at least one tensioning air inlet in the guide for the continuous thread or roving.

Uniformly sized granules are formed using the present extruder and granulation process. The extruder contains a spiral worm screw for guiding a granulation material to an apertured plate. The spiral worm screw is rotated within a chamber and is formed from a guiding slant which terminates at a blunt edge near the apertured plate. The blunt edge rubs the granulation material against the apertured plate which softens the material foming a semi-solid material. The semi-solid material is then gently pushed through the apertured plate using just the required pressure. The granules are formed when the semi-solid material hardens after exiting the apertured plate.

An assembly retainer for a self-aligning pelletizer cutter hub having a self-aligning driving connection between a cutter hub and a drive shaft for the hub in which the cutter hub is capable of universal pivotal movement as well as a driving connection through diametrically located recesses and spherical balls. The retainer is supported on the hub to retain the torque transmitting balls in the recesses. In one embodiment, the balls are retained by circular plates attached to the hub in position to form a closure for an open end of each recess. In another embodiment, spring pins are inserted in passageways in the hub with one end extending into an open end of said recesses to form an obstruction in each recess.
