    摘要: A method is disclosed for manufacturing ejector sleeves from tubular stock. In particular, the method includes the following steps or operations: (a) cutting the tube stock to length, (b) enlarging a portion of the inside diameter of the sleeve to provide a clearance diameter, (c) rough-sizing a close-fitting inner diameter, (d) optionally semi-finishing the outside diameter of the sleeve, (e) hardening and straightening the sleeve, (f) final sizing of the outside diameter while maintaining concentricity with the inside diameters, (g) finishing the end face of the sleeve adjacent the close-fitting diameter, (h) final sizing of the close-fitting inner diameter while maintaining concentricity with the outside diameter, (i) forming a head on the sleeve by heating and forging to a predetermined size, (j) optional annealing and refinishing of the head for purposes of hardness or dimensional modification, or improving surface finish.

    摘要: An ejection device in a die closing unit of an injection molding machine in which the ejector piston rod, reaching from behind through the movable die carrier and into an engagement cavity in the back plate of the movable die half, is automatically engaged with, or disengaged from, the ejector plate, in the course of the movement of a die assembly into and out of the operating position, in conjunction with a mechanized die exchange procedure. A connecting socket at the extremity of the piston rod cooperates with a connecting plug on the back side of the ejector plate. A brief interruption of the transfer movement, obtained by means of a stop-start mechanism responsive to the die assembly transfer movement, allows for the piston rod to be extended into, or retracted from, the engagement cavity.

    摘要: The quality and useful life of curing bladders used in standard "Bag-O-Matic" tire vulcanizing presses is greatly improved by replacing the standard split two-piece core of the bladder mold with a unitary core which forms a disc-like rubber diaphragm below the core and integral with the rubber curing bladder at the periphery of the core. A unique base plate fits in the lower mold half below the core and has a grooved upper surface to hold the diaphragm in place so that the core can be removed manually or automatically with the assistance of internal air pressure.

    摘要: An article having a flange is molded between a mold core and a unitary mold cavity, the flange being formed during the process as a consequence of the existence of an undercut existing in a first surface of the cavity. A ridge is provided on a second surface of the mold cavity adjacent the undercut. A fluid, i.e., air, is injected between the cavity and the molded article as the core and cavity separate in such a volume and at such a pressure as will maintain the article in substantially complete and constant contact with the core as the core and article are withdrawn from the cavity. The flange conforms to the cavity wall until the article is free from the cavity, and subsequently the molded article is separated from the mold core.

    摘要: A mold changer for an injection molding machine has a carriage with two mold stations mounted next to the molding machine. The carriage is movable parallel to the tie rods (or platen movement) of the molding machine to position a selected work station in register for mold changing. There are rollers on the machine platens and at each carriage work station to support the mold weight while permitting lateral movement of the mold into or out of the machine or carriage as part of mold changing. Separate drive means to power such lateral mold movement are on each of the machine and carriage. Each of the drive means selectively moves a mold the first part of the way from the device in which it is mounted (i.e. machine or carriage) into the other device (carriage or machine) and at some point the drive means in the receiving device assumes driving and completion of the mold change. The mold is constructed and arranged to engage and disengage the drive means.

    摘要: There is described a process and apparatus for flaring the end of a thermoplastic tube to form a flange thereon to provide a flanged adapter for joining sections of plastic pipes. An end portion of a tube of suitable thermoplastic resin is heated to soften it and is then placed in a flanged sleeve with the heated tube end projecting from the sleeve. A flanged male plug is inserted into the heated end of the tube and the plug is pushed by means of a press into the tube to cause the flanged plug to flare the heated end of the tube outwardly through an obtuse angle against the flange of the sleeve so that a flange is formed on the tube. A cylindrical member embraces the flanges of plug and sleeve and limits outer flow of the formed tube flange. The tube is then cooled in situ in the press, is removed from the press after cooling and placed in a cold water tank for further cooling. After cooling, the flanged tube is constrained between top and bottom clamping disks and is reheated to about 160.degree. F. and then cooled at the rate of 10.degree. F. an hour until the flared tube is cooled to about 72.degree. F. Thereafter the tube is permitted to stand for a further 48 hours, or so, and is then machined.

Each thermal expansion rod is fixed to the shaping member and is secured to the support via a differential screw mechanism that includes a driven screw and an adjusting screw positioned in tandem in a threaded bore through the support and are coupled so that the driven screw can be turned by turning the adjusting screw. The driven and adjusting screws have internally threaded bores and one end of the thermal expansion rod screws into the bore of the driven screw. A jam screw is screwed into the bore of the adjusting screw to be screwed down against the end of the thermal expansion rod within the differential screw mechanism.

    摘要: A mold assembly for use in injection molding an object having an aperture therein, includes first and second interlocking portions which are separable from each other along an axis which is perpendicular to the axis of the aperture. The aperture is formed by an elongated core which is stationarily defined on one of the mold portions and conformingly engages the other mold portion when the mold is closed. The mold portions are drawn into tight, interlocking engagement with each other by wedge-shaped surfaces adjacent the core and respectively defined on the mold portions, thereby preventing flashing from forming over the aperture during the molding process.
