Abstract:
A pneumatic tire to reduce separation of a carcass ply from inner and outer core pieces (5i, 5o) and improve steering stability. A radially inner end portion of the carcass ply is held between the inner and outer core pieces (5i, 5o) without turning-up around a bead core. The inner and outer core pieces (5i, 5o) are made of helical body of bead cord (10i, 10o) helically winding around a tire axis. In the inner core piece (5i), the final twisting direction of the bead cord (10i) is the same as the winding direction around the tire axis of the bead cord (10i) in side view from axial outward of the tire. In the outer core piece (5o), the final twisting direction of the bead cord (10o) is opposite to the winding direction of the bead cord (10o).
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for preforming a green tire into a shape that is equivalent to the shape of the green tire when placed in a closed mold. The method for preforming orients the beads of the green tire parallel and concentric to one another and also rotates the bead area components of the tire into the proper configuration prior to cure. The bead portions of the tire maintain the parallel position as the tire is loaded into a tire mold.
Abstract:
A multi-piece sealing sleeve is disclosed. The multi-piece sealing sleeve includes annular first and second layers of a substantially air-impermeable material. The first layer has an inner edge sized to surround a base portion of the tire shaping drum. An outer edge of the first layer extends radially outwardly to overlie at least a portion of a radially expandable and collapsible structure defined by the tire shaping drum. The second layer is sized to overlie and establish sealing engagement with at least a portion of the first layer and a bead seat defined by the radially expandable and collapsible structure of the tire shaping drum. The first and second layers cooperate to establish a substantially airtight seal between the tire shaping drum base portion and the bead seat.
Abstract:
When a bead member formed of a bead core and a bead filler is transferred, the occurrence of deformation in the bead filler is restricted, and the shape accuracy thereof is improved. A plurality of supporting pawls provided on a transfer apparatus are brought into contact with an inside diameter portion of a bead core of a bead member to support it at a plurality of points in the circumferential direction, from the inner circumferential side. At the same time, an end of a bead filler is sucked and supported by suction pads joined to the supporting pawls via joint members. The bead member, while being held at the respective parts, is removed from a forming apparatus, is moved to a cartridge for storage, and is placed on a placing surface of the cartridge. Thereafter, the suction holding of the bead filler is released and the supporting pawls are moved away from the inside diameter portion of the bead core, thus transferring the bead member onto the cartridge.
Abstract:
A process and an apparatus for building a pneumatic tyre for vehicle wheels, in which the tyre includes a carcass structure including at least one carcass ply, at least one annular reinforcing structure associated with the carcass structure, a tread band at a position radially external to the carcass structure, and a pair of sidewalls at axially opposite positions on the carcass structure. The apparatus has a toroidal support and at least one turning-up device provided with an annularly continuous presser element axially translatable along the axis of the toroidal support and radially expandable and contractible relative to the axis of the toroidal support to contact the axially internal surfaces of the strip-like elements and turn them up around at least one reinforcing element.
Abstract:
A chipper and apex subassembly 100 as an intermediate article of manufacture in a pneumatic tire has an apex strip 30 formed as a continuous elastomeric strip of unvulcanized material having a bottom base portion 31 and two opposing sides 33, 34 extending towards the narrow outer tip 32 and a chipper ply strip 40 reinforced with parallel cords oriented on a bias angle relative to the length of the strip cojoined to the apex 30 along the length of the strips and attached to one side of the unvulcanized apex strips on an outer surface. The chipper 40 is spaced from the bottom base portion 31 of the apex 30 and extends widthwise towards the narrow outer tip 32 to form a subassembly 100 of a chipper 40 and apex 30 as an intermediate article of manufacture. Additionally the subassembly 100 can be attached to bead core 12 to make a subassembly 200 as a further intermediate article of manufacture.
Abstract:
An apparatus for feeding and setting beads onto an assembly drum of a pneumatic tire assembling machine, comprising a bead servicing mechanism to support thereon a supply of beads, and a bead separating mechanism to effect successive transfer of the beads from the servicing mechanism to the assembly drum. The servicing mechanism comprises a plurality of parallel rods arranged in a single circle, the rods being provided with vanes uniformly spaced longitudinally of the rods. The latter are associated with a drive effecting rotation of the rods about; their axes between a position whereat the vanes are projected beyond the circle to separate the beads from one another, and a position whereat the vanes are retracted into said circle, providing for forwarding of the beads longitudinally of the rods.
