Further, the practical commercialization of traction roller transmissions requires improvements in the reliability, ease of shifting, function and simplicity of the transmission. The present invention includes a continuously variable transmission that may be employed in connection with any type of machine that is in need of a transmission. For example, the transmission may be used in (i) a motorized vehicle such as an automobile, motorcycle, or watercraft, (ii) a non-motorized vehicle such as a bicycle, tricycle, scooter, exercise equipment or (iii) industrial equipment, such as a drill press, power generating equipment, or textile mill.

    摘要: The drive hub for a vehicle, particularly a bicycle, comprises a hub axle 1, a hub sleeve 9 adapted to rotate in relation to the hub axle 1 and a driver 13 mounted to rotate on the hub axle 1. The driver 13 drives the hub sleeve 9 through a friction gear 17 of which the first toroidal disc 25 is rotationally rigidly connected to the hub axle 1, of which the second toroidal disc 27 is connected to the driver 13 via a ratchet free wheel coupling 23 and drives the friction wheel carrier 43 which is provided with a plurality of friction wheels 35 and which is, in force-locking manner, connected to the hub sleeve 9 via an expanding coupling 20. The infinitely adjustable transmission ratio of the friction gear 17 is controlled from within the hub axle 1 via a linkage 53 which, via a coupling ring 47, entrains the pivotally mounted lever 39c of the pivot frames of the friction wheels 35. The system's own transmission of the friction gear 17 from the driver 13 to the friction wheel carrier 43 downwards can be compensated by rotary speed increasing measures both at the chain drive and also within the friction gear 17 by asymmetrical disposition of the toroidal zones.

    摘要: A continuously variable transmission comprises a sun wheel (11, 66) and at least one planet wheel (3, 65) having a double, essentially conical surface (30, 31, 64, 71, 72), which planet wheel (3, 65) interacts on one side with the sun wheel (11, 66) and on the other side with an annulus wheel (2, 73), as well as adjusting structure (5, 6, 16) for changing the transmission ratio. Each planet wheel (3, 65) is provided with an intermediate wheel (9, 59) which interacts on one side with the sun wheel (11, 66) and on the other side with the planet wheel (3, 65). Each planet wheel (3, 65) and, where appropriate, intermediate wheel (9, 59) is also adjustable about an imaginary axis which runs transversely to the centre line of the sun wheel (11, 66), such that each planet wheel (3, 65) can be brought into positions with respect to the annulus wheel (2, 59) in which they can roll with respect to one another so as to describe a helical path. As a result, the planet wheel (3, 65) and the sun wheel are given a different position with respect to one another in the axial direction, which produces a different transmission ratio.

    摘要: A drive transmission for a bicycle or the like including a housing having a pair of spaced right circular cones oppositely mounted and journaled for rotation within the housing. A sprocket is fixedly secured to one end of both of the cones and a first chain operatively engages the pedal sprocket of the bicycle and one of the cone sprockets and a second chain operatively engages the rear wheel sprocket and the other cone sprocket. Means are provided for transmitting rotation of one of the cones to the other. Means may also be provided for changing the position of the aforementioned means with respect to the tapered surfaces of the cones to decrease the ratio between the cones automatically in response to the revolution of the rear wheel of the bicycle. In this manner, the pedal pressure remains uniform and constant regardless of the terrain encountered by the cyclist.
