Abstract:
The device disclosed herein is for a folding mast device for use on watercraft. In the preferred embodiment, the mast is used on a bridge erection boat; however, additional watercraft may also incorporate this device. The mast includes clamps and other components in order to allow the mast to be assembled and disassembled without tools, which also makes the assembly and disassembly quick. The mast is also quickly removable and replaceable. The mast also can incorporate safety features, such as lighting and other devices needed for safe navigation, and is capable of adjusting to accommodate fabrication differences.
Abstract:
A sailing vessel is disclosed which comprises a hull, a keel depending from the hull and a mast. A ballast bulb is provided at the lower end of the keel. A first control mechanisms is provided for rotating the ballast bulb about a transverse axis to change the angle of attack of the bulb. A second control mechanism is provided for rotating the bulb about a longitudinal axis of the vessel.
Abstract:
A locking quick connect fitting allows for the attachment and detachment of stays and rigging on sailboats and other related applications. The invention eliminates the need to handle clevis pins and cotter pins when setting up or tearing down the rigging of a sailboat, and especially for the standing rigging of a trailer able sailboat. Further, it can be tightened by wrench. In addition, the fitting helps keep the connection secure even if in the unlocked state. The presented invention is also modular and readily connectable to the rigging or fittings on existing sailboats. In order to avoid abandonment of the application, applicant must make these above agreed upon changes.
Abstract:
A twin arm gin pole is an apparatus that is used for leverage when raising or lowering a deck stepped mast on a sail boat. The apparatus includes a first arm, a second arm, a first lifeline stanchion coupler, a second lifeline stanchion coupler, a winch, and a halyard connector. The first arm and the second arm are connected in a V-shaped structural body. Each of the distal ends for the V-shaped structural body is hingedly connected to the boat by one of the lifeline stanchion coupler. The winch is connected adjacent to the vertex of the V-shaped structural body, and the halyard connector is connected adjacent to the V-shaped structural body, opposite the winch. The winch is cranked to either pull the V-shaped structural body towards or away from the deck of the boat. A halyard line is tethered between the halyard connector and the top of the mast.
Abstract:
A coupling device for a semi-continuous composite rigging system is provided including a first body portion and a second body portion. The first body portion comprises a first end and a second end. A first passage and a second passage extend from the first end to the second end, where the second passage is coextensive with the first passage at the first end and at the second end. The first body portion is configured to receive a continuous shroud and to allow the continuous shroud to pass therethrough. The second body portion is coupled to the first body portion and is configured to receive an end portion of a discontinuous shroud.
Abstract:
According to an embodiment, a sailboat includes a mast, and a spreader extending from the mast. The sailboat also includes a vertically extending stay spaced from the mast, and a diagonally extending stay coupled to the vertically extending stay and to the mast. The spreader engages the diagonally extending stay at a position above where the diagonally extending stay couples to the vertically extending stay. According to another embodiment, a rigging assembly includes a spreader configured to extend from a mast, a vertically extending stay, and a diagonally extending stay coupled to the vertically extending stay and configured to extend to the mast. The spreader engages the diagonally extending stay at a position above where the diagonally extending stay couples to the vertically extending stay.

Abstract:
The invention is a sailboat rigging system and method for forming same. It is formed from a plurality of resin prepreg high strength fiber strands, tows or roving. The fiber are laid out in a preferred rigging configuration with the fiber strands, tows or roving being placed under generally equal tension. The resin in the prepreg fibers bonds the fiber strands, tows or roving to consolidate them together substantially without open spaces therebetween. If desired, the fiber strands, tows or roving can be branched out at branching points to provide for continuous rigging, and selective fibers can be dropped at various sections of the rigging for weight savings.
Abstract:
A self-supporting rotary rigging and, more specifically, a rigging that has a circular platform adjacent to the deck of the vessel, which makes it posible to control the rotation of the rigging and to install rotary stays and shrouds, which assists in stabilizing the rigging. The rigging is characterized by the existence of a small common boom securely joined to the base platform and to which are fastened the backstay and forestay, all the aforesaid making the rigging very secure and enabling the backstay and forestay to be capable of downward movement. There is a base crosstree, likewise securely connected to the platform, perpendicular to the stays, and to the end thereof are fastened the shrouds, enabling the later to work at a suitable angle. In addition, there is a tunnel across the lower part of the mast, which allows passage from one side of the rigging to the other.
Abstract:
A pultruded composite tension rod of hexagonal cross section is provided, as are larger composite rods made up of assemblies of smaller, nested-together parallel hexagonal tension rods that are re-pultruded together. A manufacturing process involving assembling and re-pultruding the smaller rods is also disclosed.
