Abstract:
A mask tightening strap, whereby a tightening device of a conventional diving face mask or swimming goggles is configured to comprise a protective sleeve attached to an inner side of a tightening strap. A fastening strap is configured on one end of the protective sleeve close to a frame of the diving mask. A hollow out portion is defined by a side of the fastening strap, and thereby enables a retaining ring of a breathing tube to clasp onto a strap in the hollow out portion. The protective sleeve can thus realize complete separation of the retaining ring from skin of a diver, and thus not only makes wearing of the face mask more comfortable, but also averting hypersusceptibility skin reactions from occurring or scratching of the skin of the diver.
Abstract:
An apparatus for preventing or minimizing decompression illness in a scuba diver, consisting of a first safety bar, at least one first cable attached to the first safety bar, and an oxygen delivery system. The first cable supports the first safety bar at a predetermined depth. The oxygen delivery system consists of an oxygen tank, an oxygen delivery line, a manifold attached to the oxygen delivery line, and a plurality of regulators attached to the manifold. When the oxygen delivery system will be used by only one scuba diver, the oxygen delivery line can be connected directly to a single regulator without the manifold. The first cable and oxygen tank are attached to a float, which is either secured to a boat or platform via a tether line or anchored to the sea floor. In an alternative embodiment, the first cable is attached directly to a boat or platform, and an oxygen supply is provided on the boat or platform. In another alternative embodiment, the apparatus further includes a second safety bar connected to the first safety bar by at least one second cable, which supports the second safety bar at a predetermined depth below the depth of the first safety bar.
Abstract:
A second stage diving regulator of the type used by scuba divers is provided. The regulator comprises a regulator housing and a mouthpiece. The regulator housing includes an inhalation chamber having a port, and a demand valve that releases air to the port in response to inhalation through the port. The mouthpiece comprises a unitary housing attachable to the regulator housing and includes a one-way exhalation pathway, thus obviating the need for an exhalation pathway in the regulator housing itself. Inhalation no-return valves can be additionally incorporated into the fluid pathway from the regulator housing to the diver to prevent fluids from flowing into the regulator housing through the mouthpiece. Saliva and exhaled air with its attendant moistures and pathogenic entities can thus be prevented from entering the regulator housing. The mouthpiece can be made easily detachable and can be sanitized between uses, making it particularly well suited for rental and instructional purposes. The disclosed invention keeps the interior spaces of the regulator clean and dry even when the regulator is not in place in the diver's mouth, thus extending regulator life and preventing a dangerous and irritating free-flow condition from occurring due to icing when used in cold water. The mouthpiece can be variously constructed to differentiate common-use mouthpieces from those owned individually.
Abstract:
Self-contained underwater re-breathing apparatus having a breathing circuit, an injection system for adding fresh breathable gas to the breathing circuit, and an automatic control system including a microcomputer for monitoring physical parameters in the breathing circuit and controlling the feeding of breathable gas to the breathing circuit in accordance with said physical parameters. The re-breathing apparatus has a bailout system automatically activated in an emergency, where the breathing circuit is shut off, and the diver starts inhaling directly from the breathable gas supply and exaling to the environment. With the system of the invention, a part of the existing closed circuit is used for bailout, and no separate bailout circuit is provided. Therefore, there is no need to incorporate in the mouthpiece means for switching from one breathing circuit to another, and the mouthpiece can be kept smaller and simpler. Further, switching to bailout is fully automated, so that no actions are required from the diver.

An internal compression buoyancy compensation device is provided with at least one bladder and a plurality of pairs of internal compression straps. Expansion of the deflated or partially inflated buoyancy compensation device is restrained by the internal elastic compression straps designed for even distribution of gas, a streamlined and low profile, and a reduced risk of entanglement on external objects.
Abstract:
A self-adjusting, water pressure-responsive weight belt assembly for use in diving is disclosed. The assembly includes a tensioning portion comprising a housing and a reciprocating member reciprocatingly disposed within the housing. The housing comprises a cover and a hollow base to which one end of a flexible belt portion is attached. An end of the reciprocating member is situated external of the housing by being disposed in a position partially outside of the reciprocating member housing cover through a slot defined therein. The other end of the flexible belt portion is attached to one end of the reciprocating member. An air space of variable volume exists within the housing and is defined by the inner walls of the reciprocating member housing base and an end wall of the reciprocating member. The reciprocating member moves within the housing, thereby adjusting the fit of the assembly on the diver in response to changes in water pressure.

Self-contained diving equipment comprising means (10) for refilling a compressed air tank (40) connected via a flexible air tube (1) to a snorkel and a breathing nozzle (70). The refilling means are deactivated when underwater, and an external air intake (61) is connected via a tube to the nozzle to feed air directly from the surface (10) when the swimmer is not underwater. The equipment further comprises a moisture removal device (20) and a filter (21) between the compressor (13) and the tank (40), as well as means (30) for controlling the activation and deactivation of the refilling means.
