    摘要: A wingsail assembly in which at least one thrust wing is mounted for free rotation about an upright axis and defining by its free rotation a trimming circle. The assembly includes a first control airfoil freely pivoted on a first boom extended upstream of a thrust wing, the first boom being of a length such that the first auxiliary control airfoil is within the trimming circle and a second control airfoil mounted downstream of the first control airfoil within the trimming circle and settable for controlling the angle of attack of the first control airfoil to the wind which in turn provides a turning moment for controlling the angle of attack of the thrust wing to provide thrust levels required for all normal sailing conditions. The assembly further moves the thrust wing to bring the instantaneous center of pressure of the thrust wing at different angles of attack into closer proximity to the upright axis and reduces the turning moment required of the first control airfoil, and in which the first control airfoil is freely pivoted about an axis ahead of all combined center of pressure locations for the first and second control airfoils.

A straight propeller shaft is passed through the bottom of the hull at an angle shallow enough to present a portion of the propeller above the bottom of the hull aft of the transom thereby providing a propeller that operates partially above the running water line during planing conditions. The benefits of a planing-type hull and a surface-drive propulsion system is economically and efficiently combined in a new design for inboard motor boats. The improved design is inexpensive to manufacture, install and maintain.

    摘要: Essentially one-half of the circumference of the propeller of the marine vessel is arranged in a tunnel having a flow-favorable cross-sectional configuration which follows the flow lines of the water. At the starting region of the tunnel there is arranged a pivotable control plate which can be moved out of a retracted position where it lies in the surface of the tunnel into an extended position removed or remote from the aforesaid retracted position, in order to detach the flow of the water from the surface of the tunnel during rapid vessel travel. The propeller which is driven at a high rotational speed accordingly operates as a partially or semi-immersed propeller. The vessel floor and the control plate are interconnected by an elastically deformable cover plate which is secured to the vessel floor and the control plate in a bending or flexurally resistant fashion. This cover plate, both in the retracted as well as in the extended position of the control plate, affords a particularly flow-favorable covering of the gap or space formed between the vessel floor and the control plate. The front edge of the control plate is connected with the vessel hull by means of bearing or pillow blocks movable in the direction of travel of the vessel. The bearing blocks possess arm members which are increasingly elastically deformable in the direction of the retracted position of the control plate.

A housing, mounted in a cavity formed in the stern of a ship, encloses a drive shaft connected to a propeller. A hydraulic device is used to raise and lower the control surface, the latter directing the flow of water across the propulsive apparatus. As the speed of the ship increases wetting of the propulsive apparatus is decreased.
