摘要： A stuffed mailing envelope is formed from webs of paper. A plurality of insert sheets are constructed from webs of insert paper by variably imaging the insert webs, and then intelligently aligning them and cutting them into aligned sheets, and then folding the aligned sheets to produce a formed insert. A plurality of interconnected envelope blanks are formed from an envelope web of paper, and a plurality of insert sheets (including the formed insert) are collected and placed on each of the envelope blanks while they are interconnected in web form. Then, while conveying the interconnected envelope blanks in web form, the blanks are severed from each other and are formed around the inserts to produce a final mailing envelope containing a plurality of insert sheets. The envelope blank typically has two parallel minor flaps and two parallel major flaps. The envelope is formed by sequentially plough folding over the minor flaps, severing the leading interconnected blank from the next blank so that the major flaps are free, changing the direction of conveyance, applying adhesive to the major flaps, and plough folding the major flaps so that the adhesive comes into contact with the minor flaps and the other major flap.

摘要： A food wrapping apparatus (10) includes a conveyor (12) for passing unwrapped food product (24) to an elevator platform (14). The elevator platform (14) has a plurality of tucking fingers (16) disposed thereon to provide a yieldable platform. When the food product (24) is disposed on the top of the tucking fingers (16), the elevator platform (14) raises the food product (24) upwards into a layer of wrapping material (18). Tucking arms (36) and (38) are operable to pass under the food product (24) disposed on the top of the tucking fingers (16) and pull the wrapping material (18) therearound. The tucking fingers (16) rotate on longitudinal rods (28) to allow the tucking arms (36) and (38) to pass thereover without disturbing the food product (24). Each of the tucking fingers (16) has a tapered leading end (66) and a tapered trailing end (64). The tapered leading end (66) is designed to mesh with the tapered trailing end (64) of an adjacent one of the fingers (16). The tapered ends allow the meshing of two fingers (16) to occur without binding and without breakage.

摘要： An automatic machine is disclosed for packaging an array, or slug, of articles, such as cans, in a paperboard carton, wherein the carton is first provided in a flat blank form, is then preliminarily formed into a U-shaped configuration, and then final wrapped around the array of articles, to be subsequently glued up and sealed so as to form a very compact paperboard carton for the articles. The machine includes a frame having a vertically movable elevator structure which is equipped with laterally opposed plows for engaging side panels of the paperboard blank, and for folding the side panels upwardly into a U-shaped configuration around the funnel portion of a packer in which the articles are held prior to being dropped onto the bottom panel of the blank. After the articles are positioned thereon, the elevator structure lowers the U-shaped blank, together with the articles, onto a pocket chain conveyor where the carton is fed laterally off the elevator to fold the top panel, and to fold the end panels associated with the side panels, as well as those associated with the top and bottom panels, into place. A conventional vertical compression unit is also used, and the manufacturer''s tab or flap is glued and folded in this portion of the machine.
