摘要: The conveyor assembly includes endless means for moving at least one container along a path. A first means is mounted on the moving means for supporting the container along a first side thereof. A second means is mounted on the moving means for supporting the container along a side opposite said first moving means. The first and second support means are capable of providing sole support for the container as it moves along the path. The conveyor assembly is particularly useful in feeding rimmed tray containers through a wrapping machine. More particularly, while the first and second support means are holding the container on opposite sides thereof, a cover sheet is being folded along adjacent unsupported side rims as the container moves along a path. A further feature is directed to a mechanism which operates when the conveyor means changes direction. Another feature of the invention is directed to the adaptability for the conveyor assembly to various sized containers.

摘要: A method and an apparatus are provided for feeding a web of thin, flimsy material to a wrapping station located in a wrapping machine. A sheet of the thin, flimsy material is cut from the web after it has been fed to the wrapping station. During the feeding process, a continuous web of thin, flimsy material is moved along a path from a supply. While in the feeding process, continuous, longitudinal pleats are formed in the continuous web while it moves along said path. The pleats are effective to stiffen the material without causing a transverse stress therein, thereby enhancing its capacity to be fed to the wrapping station. The feeding assembly may be used in combination with a wrapping machine for wrapping packages with a thin, flimsy sheet of material. A more specific embodiment includes an assembly providing means for placing continuous, longitudinal pleats in a thin, flimsy web of material. In this specific embodiment, the web of material is fed vertically downwardly into the wrapping machine at which point sheets are cut from the end of the web for placement around a package.

摘要: Electrical and mechanical means are provided in combination for detecting and preventing irregular conditions in an article handling machine. Means are also provided for sequentially starting a machine used with a supply of articles to avoid the running of a machine when an irregular condition exists in the machine. One embodiment comprises a combination including a sensing means located between a receiving means and a package supply work station to detect an irregular package feed condition. A means responsive to the sensing means will stop the feeding of packages into the receiving means thereby preventing damage to the wrapping machine. Various specific structures of the sensing means and responsive means are disclosed. The sensing means and responsive means may be used in any apparatus for conveying articles at predetermined intervals.

摘要: A method and apparatus for wrapping a package or article with a wrapper sheet. A package is moved through a wrapper sheet in such a manner as to have the wrapping material extend across the advanced end of the package and two opposite sides thereof. The wrapper sheet is shifted in its placed position on the package to effect the desired alignment thereof with respect to the package. In the apparatus of this invention, specific means are provided to effect the desired method steps. In a specific embodiment of this invention a roller member is disposed in the wrapping machine to frictionally grip the wrapper sheet after the sheet has been placed onto the package. The manner in which the wrapper sheet is gripped by the roller member will cause the sheet to shift position on the package as desired.

摘要: A wrapping machine is provided having a combination which enables the wrapping machine to be run in a fully automatic condition. The web of wrapping material is joined to a tear strip and subsequently fed to a sheet applying work station where individual wrapper sheets are cut from the web and placed over a package. A cutting means is provided to form a slit configuration in the web of wrapping material. This configuration includes two perforations extending longitudinally with respect to the tear strip on either side thereof and a perforation that crosses the two longitudinal perforations. A moving means including primary pushing means and auxiliary pushing means is used to feed packages at predetermined intervals into the wrapping machine. Sensing means are provided to detect any irregular package feed condition being conveyed by the moving means with a first responsive means functioning to stop the moving of the packages within the machine. A heat sealing means is used in this combination and is operably connected to a second means that is responsive to any shut down condition in the wrapping machine to move the heat sealing means away from any package that is being sealed therewith thereby preventing burning of the package. Each of the specific elements provides a function that overcomes various problems associated with wrapping machines now available in the prior art. There are several individual features set forth in the separate embodiments of this invention.

摘要: A tension control and brake assembly maintains tension on a relatively thin, pliant lightweight filament, tape, or strip material. The assembly includes a material supply spool support having a braking surface thereon and a tension control member mounted for movement relative to the spool support and braking surface. A brake element is connected to the control member for movement therewith in one direction for spool braking engagement with the support braking surface and is disengageable therefrom upon movement of the control member in a second direction thereby regulating the tension applied to the withdrawn strip material. A spring is connected to bias the control member in its brake engaging direction. The strip material withdrawn from the supply spool initially passes through a first strip guide member mounted in spaced relation to the spool support and tension control member. The strip material is withdrawn in a direction corresponding to the brake releasing, tension regulating movement of the control member. The withdrawn strip material then passes through a second strip guide member on the tension control member and a third guide member mounted adjacent the second guide member. Consequently, the tension in the strip material is multiplied in its brake releasing application to the tension control member. A spring biased take-up engages the strip material intermediate the third guide member and a strip drawing roller. Thus, slack is taken up and tension maintained during decelerating and ''''stopping'''' overruns of the supply spool. Initial loads imposed on the strip material are absorbed during a subsequent ''''starting'''' period.
