摘要: An overhead packaging machine with articulating lugs is mountable along a product packaging system for the application of cartons such as wrap-style cartons about sets or groups of products. The overhead packaging machine includes a lug conveyor having a series of articulating lug assemblies mounted thereto and which are moved along a path of travel for engaging the groups of products with their cartons applied thereto. Each of the articulating lug assemblies includes a pair of articulating lugs mounted to a carriage, which articulating lugs are moveable into engaging positions for engaging the cartons applied to the groups of products as the groups of products are moved along their path of travel for folding and locking of the cartons thereabout. After the cartons have been applied and secured about their product groups, the articulating lugs can be moved to non-engaging positions, out of engagement with the cartons and/or product groups as the packaged product groups are moved away from the overhead packaging machine, while the articulating lug assemblies can be moved along a return path of travel for engaging a next product group.

摘要: A card having a product thereon is fed by a conveyor into a card folding device. This involves the use of an air jet located below the conveyor, which is activated and causes the leading portion of the card as it passes thereover to go into an upright position approximately perpendicular to the conveyor. While in this position, the conveyor causes the card to be fed into fingers located above the conveyor which complete the fold rearwardly. While still under the influence of the fingers, the leading edge, or fold line, of the now folded card is fed into a creaser. At this point, a switch is tripped which raises a stop-bar which stops the card. A reciprocal plunger is now activated and is used to crease the leading edge by exerting downward pressure thereon against the stop-bar. Once creasing is completed, the stop-bar and plunger retract allowing the conveyor to take the card and product to the next packaging station.

摘要: The disclosed device comprises a roller, rotatably mounted on a pivotable arm, for maintaining rolling contact with the edges of sheets being adhesively laminated. One of the sheets is rather stiff board and the other a thin gauge sheet covering one side of the board. As the laminated sheets advance the roller, which is in pressure engagement with the edges of the board parallel to the direction of movement, moves laterally inwardly to also provide rolling contact with the lateral trailing edge of the board. In doing so the corners of the thin wrap are pressed tightly against the edges of the board to produce well defined corners.

摘要: A carton loading and forming machine having a carton dispenser magazine which includes a walking beam mechanism arranged to underlie portions of the carton blanks in the magazine for moving the carton blanks towards the discharge end of the magazine. The magazine is adapted to suspend the blanks from support rails disposed at opposite sides of the blanks and arranged above the centre of gravity of the blanks so that the blanks hang freely from the support rails. The machine also includes transfer means for transferring carton blanks from the dispenser to a wrapping station. The transfer means including a laterally extending carton blank conveyor for moving carton blanks laterally from the dispenser mechanism to the carton wrapping station. Plow blades are provided adjacent the conveyor to fold the carton blanks, as they travel along the conveyor, to a generally U-shaped configuration opening in a direction to receive a mandrel travelling along the wrapping path. The apparatus also provides a plurality of carton forming mandrels and a mandrel exchange station in which the mandrels may be speedily removed and replaced by mandrels of different size. The apparatus is readily adaptable for use with carton blanks of different lengths by reason of the fact that the first end flap is closed as it is moved along a first datum plane which is fixed with respect to the wrapping machine and the second end of the carton is closed as it is moved along the second datum plane which is also fixed with respect to the wrapping machine. The first and second datum planes do not move with respect to the wrap-around carton forming machine to accommodate variations in length of the carton. The adjustments required to accommodate cartons of different lengths are, therefore, minimal. The apparatus also provides wrap-around carton mandrels each of which carry its own plunger mechanism which is used for dispensing the partially wrapped article from the mandrel. The plunger mechanisms are guided by simple overhead guide rails as the mandrels are moved through the various stations.
