Transporting an essentially sheet-like element, particularly for transporting a sheet of printing material in a printing press, in which the sheet-like element is picked up in the area of its leading edge by at least one rotating transport at a pickup site, transported to a delivery site, and then delivered there, wherein the sheet-like element is curved over a rotational or curvature radius during transport. The sheet-like element is forced between the pickup site and the delivery site by at least one guide element, that is, an intermediate guide element, that blocks at least in the centrifugal direction, in order to maintain the radius of curvature.

A sheet treating apparatus and an image forming apparatus having the same which are excellent in durability and exhibit excellent sheet transportability while allowing saving of space, in which a large number of curled sheets can be stacked in an aligned state. In the sheet treating apparatus, a delivery sheet holding-down member is provided in an upper roller of an FD upper roller.

Conveying an essentially sheet-shaped element, in particular, for conveying a sheet of printing medium in a printing machine. The sheet-shaped element is: 1) picked up by at least one rotating conveying component having at least one jaw-shaped receiver for introducing or inserting the leading edge of the sheet-shaped element at a pickup point located in the area of its leading edge; and 2) carried along to a stacking point where it is stacked, whereby the sheet-shaped element is bowed around a rotational radius or a radius of curvature. The sheet-shaped element is held by at least one retaining component located in the area of the jaw-shaped receiver, in particular, proactively, and by force.

A multi-function media eject system and method for operation particularly useful for ink jet printers. At the start of a print job, the media type and print format are determined. If the media is either banner paper or envelope, or if the print format is draft quality printing, wings and kickers of the eject system are disabled, so the media exits the printer without support from the wings or influence from the kickers.

A sheet collection apparatus has a stacking portion to stack mails in the standing position, a back-up plate in contact with one end of stacked mails in the stacked direction, and take-in rollers arranged at the positions contacting the other end of stacked mails. The take-in rollers are rotated at a slower peripheral speed than the conveying speed of mails taken in the stacking portion.

In order to reduce the stack failure of a sheet bundle, there is provided a sheet stacking/aligning apparatus comprising: a stack tray for stacking sheets thereon; and a rear end aligning member for pushing and aligning the rear end of a sheet conveyed onto the stack tray. The rear end aligning member includes sheet holding paddle for holding the sheets stacked on the stack tray.

The present invention is to provide a paper stacker for use with an image forming apparatus of a high copying speed. The paper stacker comprises a paper conveying means for conveying a paper with an image recorded thereon to a stacking position, a top end stopper provided reciprocatively movably along a conveying path of the paper, a paper receiving plate disposed below the conveying path of the paper for receiving a paper, a rear end stopper for defining the rear end position of the paper on the paper receiving plate, and an elevating device for changing the height of the paper receiving plate, wherein the top end stopper and the rear end stopper are provided movably in the same direction in the conveyance direction per a given number of papers. The papers are stacked only by shifting the top end stopper and the rear end stopper in the conveyance direction so that the stacker configuration is extremely simplified so as to enable a high speed.

An arrangement to hold a top sheet of a stack of sheets that are ejected by an office machine and deposited on the stack is disclosed. The arrangement comprises a holding element and a lifting device adapted to vertically move the holding element. A tension spring is adapted to be tensioned when the holding element is placed on the stack, thereby generating a placement force. The lifting device may comprise an upper part where the holding element is arranged and a lower part. The lower part is vertically driven, and the upper part and the lower part being connected by the tension spring. The holding element may be a holding flap that is pivotally positioned at the lifting device and is adapted to pivot between a swung out position that projects over a stack of sheets and a swung in position into the lifting device. A joint drive may effect the lifting movement of the lifting device and the swinging movement of the holding flap, the holding flap being driven by a sliding clutch.

The invention concerns a stack height determination mechanism (25) for a stack (1) consisting of flat material (2), preferably sheet paper, with at least one sensor (3) to determine stack height and a stack height control mechanism with a stack height determination mechanism (25) of this kind. Exact determination of the stack height, especially in order to exactly position the stack for the next delivery of material (2), is achieved in that a flat element (4) to determine the height of the stack (1) is brought into a bearing position (5) on the stack and that this bearing position (5) is determined by at least one sensor (3).

A system for automatically releasing selected plural sheet feeding nip sets spaced along a print media sheet feeding path of a printer, wherein the idler rollers are rotatably mounted on common idler shafts and a selectable partial rotation system driven by a single low cost motor is flexibly connected to those plural idler shafts to partially rotate eccentric lift cams on each idler shaft into the underlying surface as to lift the idler shaft and thereby move the idler rollers away from their normally mating sheet feed rollers to release all the sheet feeding nips, enabling sheet deskew, inversion, acceleration, deceleration, or sheet jam clearance in that selected area of the sheet feeding path.
