摘要: A batch sheet feeder has an upstream first conveyor section arranged to convey sheets singly in a downstream direction to a downstream second conveyor section. The second conveyor section has an upper second conveying section and a lower second conveying section forming a gap therebetween. The gap is largest at an upstream end of the second conveyor section and diminishes in size toward a downstream end of the second conveyor section. A gate positioned proximate the downstream end of the second conveyor section selectively blocks sheets fed along the second conveyor section. In another embodiment, the sheet feeder has a sheet conveyor, sheet sensor, and visual attribute sensor. The visual attribute sensor has a field of view covering an area of the conveyor at a certain downstream location so as to sense an area of any sheet on the conveyor at this downstream location. The visual attribute sensor can compare a sensed area of a sheet at the downstream location with a stored visual attribute. In this way, where the sheets of a batch are different, the visual attribute sensor can be used to verify that a sheet of a batch has visual characteristics matching those of the expected sheet at that ordinal position in the batch. This assists in ensuring a batch is not faulty. In a related method of verifying batches of sheets, for each sheet at a given ordinal position in each batch a visual attribute measure for at least an area of the sheet is obtained. A comparison is made of the visual attribute measure with a stored visual attribute measure. Each batch is selectively verified based on this comparison.

摘要: A module for temporarily storing a succession of flat printed products includes a first carrier element train on a first transport element assigned to a first side wall of the module, and a second carrier element train on a second transport element assigned to a second side wall of the module. The second side wall is located opposite the first side wall. The transport elements are movable relative to the side walls and correlated with one another, for a form-locking, at least partial support of a printing product loaded into the module. Support for an underside of the loaded printing product is provided by an upper side of the first carrier element and by an upper side of the second carrier element. A third carrier element of the first carrier element train and a fourth carrier element of the second carrier element train have respective undersides making form-locking contact with the upper side of the loaded printed product, so that the underside of the loaded printed product is held down on the upper sides of the first and the second carrier elements. A further processing device includes the module.

摘要: A conveyor or article transportation system for conveying or transporting, for example, pieces or units of mail, or similar flat articles, has a pair of guide fingers operatively extending downstream from a downstream end of the conveyor so as to project into a stacking chamber within which the pieces or units of mail, or flat articles, are to be stacked. The guide fingers effectively vertically support the downstream end portions of the pieces or units of mail, or articles, such that the downstream end portions of the mail or articles do not curl or curve downwardly, or sag, whereby the pieces of mail or articles are deposited within the stacking chamber in a substantially flat state so as to prevent rollover of the pieces of mail or articles which would otherwise become jammed within the stacking system and cause upstream jamming or interruptions within the conveying system. In addition, the prevention of the curling or rollover of the pieces of mail or articles, in turn, prevents the pieces or articles from being stacked partially inside each other and therefore out of their previously sorted serial sequence.

摘要: Apparatus for accumulating successive stacks of superimposed sheets on discrete pallets employs a conveyor which delivers a continuous imbricated stream of sheets to a stacking station where a pallet descends with an elevator and gathers a first stack. A separating finger is inserted into the accumulation of sheets at the stacking station at a level above the topmost sheet of the fully grown first stack. The thus obtained gap is increased by lowering the finger at a speed less than that of the elevator, the increased gap receives a positioning member which attracts the lower part of the growing second stack by suction, a table is inserted into the increased gap between the partitioning member and the fully grown stack, the fully grown stack and its pallet are withdrawn from the stacking station and replaced with a fresh pallet, the table and the partitioning member are withdrawn from the stacking station so that the growing second stack descends onto the second pallet, and the above-enumerated sequence of steps is tereupon repeated.

摘要: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for stacking mailpieces received from a mail-processing machine in consecutive order. There is a receiving conveying section positioned at a greater height than the following stacking conveying section. A stacking ramp extends from the downstream portion of the stacking conveying section. The receiving conveying section has a single continuous belt extending along the receiving conveying section in a first direction and positioned centrally along a second direction of the conveying section. The continuous belts of the stacking conveying section are positioned substantially at equal intervals extending along the first direction of the stacking conveying section and have top surfaces which extend above the stacking conveying section and which contact the mailpieces received from the mail processing machine. Additionally, included are means for driving the continuous belt at a first speed on the receiving conveying section in the first direction and for driving the belt at a second speed on the stacking conveying section in the same direction, the second speed of the plurality of belts is slower than the first speed of the continuous belt on the receiving conveying section. There is also a hold down means which positions and guides the mailpieces, positioned at the downstream portion of the receiving conveying section comprising normal force rollers that contact the receiving conveying belt to align the mailpieces at the receiving conveying section and guide the mailpieces onto the stacking conveying belt.
